I finally moved my wood pile from the back 40 to the house for the winter.

Now I'm attempting to replace it with a real wood shed built solely from dead cedar I've cut down (or will be) while clearing my woods.

I've never built anything before but I've watched a lot of Alaskan shows on TV and I've been inspired. I started last weekend.

Thought you all would get a kick out of watching.

Here's the blank canvas staked out. It'll be 6ft deep by 24ft long.

    With the first 4 posts:

Leveling the front and back beams (yeah, I'm not conversant with construction terms):

And here's the first 8' complete and ready for planks... which will be milled with my new, yet to be used, scary, Alaskan mill.

I dig your vision and can-do attitude AnnieOakleaf  That should last a long time. Nice repurposing on the dead cedar. I’m building a woodshed myself and used dead cedar for all of the uprights. It’s just a matter of me finishing it now :emb:

:popcorn:Can't wait to see how it turns out. I've been planning this same thing in my head. No cedar here but lots of pine and sweet gum.

    Subscribed.

Love to burn cedar but not easy to come by. Not sure why, there are plenty around.

Good luck Annie. Great project. It also does not matter what you call things so long as you know the purpose of them. people for years have referred to thing-a-ma-jigs and such and have got along just fine.

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback. booneatl I've been calling this my 'fantasy in-my-head' project for quite some time.

This location is sloped pretty steeply. One of the reasons I am doing it is because not only did I have a fall, but the wind literally moved my previous stacks (pallets supported by a variety of cedar blocks, small cedar logs & various rocks) by feet.

    FallenStack.jpg

Mag Craft here are some pictures of the location. The view is from the side of my house to the whole back yard. It's about 60 yards out. I know that because we have measured to use the wood pile as target practice for our air rifles. :D

    YardSideShot.jpg

Here's a pic from the middle of the yard looking at the house - I use the heck out of that wagon.

    HouseFromYard.jpg

Check this bug artifact out! I've never seen anything like it. My husband said I should cut it out and save it, but I already nailed down the beam. I will try to not nail into it when I lay my floorboards...maybe someone will find it when they tear down the woodshed after I am dead.

Hopefully I will have more to share after this weekend.

Thank you all for the welcome.

Here's the stack that's waiting for me to finish. It's next year's firewood so I'd really like to get it split and stacked soon.

    Cool log!

That needs to be cut out and saved.
A few coats of clear and put on display.

    Really unique.

I would get those rounds split as soon as possible. They don't dry as fast as splits. Nice stash though.

Thanks! That's the plan. :) Hurry up and get my shed done. Due to circumstances, for the past 4 years, I've been splitting wood about a year before I burn it. Fortunately, I've yet to have a problem with moisture. Guess I'm just lucky?
