When I was running job sites all of our ductile iron yard pipes would come from back east on flatbed trucks stuck with either 2x4 - 2x8, eight foot long timbers, depending on the size of the pipe. Usually some type of oak. These were not the prettiest timbers usually having a lot of wain or bark but great for fire wood. Whenever I had an accumulation of timber, I would send a laborer out with an electric chainsaw to buck them up and stack in my trailer. Made for some heavy loads all that closely stacked and slightly mounded oak! Also made for some hot, long fires, tightly stacked over a bed of coals in the wood stove! :camping:

Definitely nice to have it when we can accumulate enough, eh? Our wood here keeps us warm I'll give it that but we don't quite have a nice selection of heavy hitters. I'll save Black Locust and Dogwood if we find it for that matter, Madrona is actually tougher for me to find someone cutting it up and getting rid of it. About 2 years ago I managed to grab a plethora of oak, maple and likely Cottonwood 4x4s to rough 6x6s some were 14 feet long in Kalamath for a decent price. They weren't super straight but having found decent ones to put in for our chicken coop made things solid. Now I've got to haul them out to Enumclaw. They were likely train dunnage and I rented a bigger sized Uhaul truck to get them home. Likely some of the best oak I've seen in big timber sizes and I'm hesitant to even use them as firewood since I have no idea if they'll be available to me later. More importantly to be used as animal shelter beams.

I thought I'd :zip: and let this talk. My ladys' anxiety skyrockets when she sees it but it's wearing off. :emb: sorry honey. Anyways pardon my mess but I’ve been waiting a spell to do the work. 20221025_130257.jpg 20221025_130254.jpg 20221025_130305.jpg 20221025_130231.jpg 20221025_130148.jpg 20221025_130144.jpg 20221025_130158.jpg 20221025_130139.jpg

These are mostly from several stops I make regularly in town now. They ebb and flow based on business and I collected a lot of these during the summers end before I went back to work. The argument I give is I promise (loosely) to find pallets that will be for her crafts, small ones to her liking. My daughter has somewhat given me these.... when I go to my stops with her in tow. I'm planning on cutting a lot of these up anyways so the pile will dwindle. I know...:loco:

Glad I’m not the only one! I have a few regular pick up spots I drive by often and check.

When I first started building our mud kitchens, we used as much recycled material as we could. Mostly pallets. Eventually, we got too busy to keep that up and switched to lumber. I have one of these for breaking up the pallets, and it works pretty good.

Then I used one of these for the nails.

Maybe I’ll paint the pallets blue. Truth in advertising and all that jazz. :)
