Independent shops here vary from 90-140 an hour depending on the shop

I have decided to expand my horizons and have my BEV, and hybrid certifications now. I am the only guy at the dealership that can work on them for now. Definitely a different beast for sure
Here’s a couple of pictures of the inside of one these batteries

    But this
well if it’s 8 hours or $2,000 to fix it or $70,000 to replace it.. I need to get out of rust zone so at least the vehicle last longer

No cones set up around you? Do you have the shepherds pole close by Incase you get “stuck” to the battery pack?

Probably good for now but I'm waiting to see a few years down the road when complacent and shade tree mechanics are being toasted.

But, but, but, isn’t one of the EV marvels that they require no maintenance and don’t break down?

None of my vehicles have ever seen a dealer or a garage. I do all my own repairs as well as the electrical-electronic stuff. What the OBD port is for and a good scan tool like the Autel I own. Wasn't cheap but good stuff usually isn't.

My tr4actors see the dealership infrequently, but my dealer gives me the family-employee rate and it's nowhere near 200 bucks an hour. Work there part time delivering new Kubota tractors.

The tranny went on our 2011 Murano last year. Debated buying new vs the cost of repair. Of course very little available and we shopped around for mid size SUV. Ford dealer was the first we shopped. Stripped down F150 only option was 4WD and 36k :jaw: It was a special order that was never sold. I looked at some of the ones with bells & whistles and nearly fainted. The $3900 i paid for my 2008 F150 five years ago seems like a bargain and a half now. (youve seen this many times on here) One dealer offered me 5k for it. Great i'd make a profit but what would i buy to replace it? Ill run it until it dies or rusts out (some starting to show through)
Seriously doubt ill ever buy new again. With the way products are made these days who knows the life expectancy of it anyhow.

That's what those that don't know any better will like to say. Yes, there's less parts on an EV. But when something goes on an EV, it's mega pricey.... I saw an article online and a guy needed a new battery for his first gen Chevy volt. The replacement battery was more than the car was worth. Like 27k I think I saw

I have a close friend who is a GM tech and he says the number of EV's that become unecinomocal to repair far surpasses the IC vehicles.

I see all the EV's in Florida are slowly going up in smoke (and fire)... Read the Florida Fire Marshall cautioned people not to park them in an attached garage as they might burn the house down. The salt water is corroding the contacts and parts.

    Not for me.

Not sure about that. Maybe less assemblies but all those motor parts and all the electronic gizmo's.. Gotta be mega bucks to repair or replace and you still have suspensions, shocks, brakes and everything else.

Personally, I think the automakers are going down a bad road with EV's, but what do I know. I just keep contributing to the carbon footprint.

The market is a mess, has been for 2 years. It’s coming back to “let’s make a deal”. Supply on the new side is starting to build. Used market is still unpredictable. One day auctions can’t sell anything, next day they sell everything for huge money. That’s where 90% of used dealers inventory comes from.

People are just taking the hit and stop payment on stuff and let it get repossessed. Cheaper than fixing.

I was paying for some gas this afternoon and the guy in front of me was laughing about having his vehicle repossessed. Very non-chalant about it.
