It feels like it weighs less than half of my Husky 576XPs. Makes cutting easy!

Thanks! I was pulling wood from 4 different racks as I was splitting. When one is empty, I switch it out for another.

How jealous i am that you can stack directly from the splitter. Im happy :dancer:when i can split directly off the truck. Been trying to do that more often.

It doesn't seem easy all that often so I'll take a win whenever I can!

That's one of the most important parts of my process. For example, I was working on several miscellaneous types of wood I had sitting around. I usually have a tote for bundle wood (clean, straight, barkless splits) and another tote for bulk wood (anything that isn't bundle wood) next to it. I sort while I split. I also ended up have some already seasoned maple in the rack so I sorted that into bundle and bulk wood and took those directly to the totes I use for roadside stand staging. Finally, some really skinny splits came off (as they often do) so those get pulled out and will be bundled for kindling (I get $10 per bundle for scrap wood). The process seems to take longer while I'm doing it, but when I get it sorted, everything is stacked and done so I think it is actually much more efficient. Of course, the ability to move totes and racks around with the skid steer is the biggest key to the whole process.

Same here my friend. Rain and wet here now so doubtful any wooding today. Have some deliveries this week and wanted to cut a load or two of wood. One score text me the other day saying they gave the wood to someone else. :headbang: I was busier last week and couldnt get there. Have another score to cut and with the roadside foliage/weeds dying off ill be able to hit another soon.

Roadside stand sales for the week were $170. Didn't have to deliver a stick. I had a customer that drove about 15 miles from one of the area lakes. She proceeded to explain that the only fireplace she had was in a condo over the garage next to the house so she wanted to have some wood on hand. Bear in mind that old shacks on this lake can sell for $1M. Based on the description of her home, I'd say she could afford to buy any kind of wood she wanted and have it delivered. She proceeded to explain that she had been buying wood closer to home but it was very "big" and very difficult to get it to burn. It was cheaper but she wasn't happy with it. I'm fairly certain it wasn't fully seasoned either but I didn't want to knock someone else's product, having never seen it. She loaded a $40 stack in the back of her Subaru Outback and went on her way.

I do the same for the most part off the splitter. One mound for "seconds" slightly crooked or knotty pieces for general cordage, nice straight splits get split a tad smaller for bundle wood. Problem is, general cordage got loaded back onto the PU and came back here. Bundle wood moved next door to storage with truck and wheelbarrow...talk about a PITA but it is what it is. That skid steer is definitely key.

I have 4-5 storage areas. Originally started with just here the house we rent. Asked landlord for stage down below at his place and he gave me an area. That got too full and his son told me no more wood...this was three years ago. The last of that wood will go this season.
My friend who lives ten minutes away gave me a section of his front yard which is my main storage and splitting area. That has slowly expanded to include some of his back yard in the woods. His neighbor is a young kid ive become friends with and have wood stored there too, mostly trees he had taken down and wood ive cut there. I do him favors in exchange for wood storage.
Other storage is 1/4 mile down from me. Wood customer offered up one section of his carport behind his four car garage which i accepted. All black locust there. I help him process wood and an occasional favor as needed. Never a dull logistical moment in my wood hoarding life! Sometimes gets tiring to jump through too many hoops!

My hat is off to you sir! You spend more time behind the windshield just moving wood than I do processing. And then there's the scrounging, cutting splitting and stacking you do. I have no idea where you find enough hours in the day!

I dont. A lifetime of being self employed has me spoiled rotten. I make a lot more doing my other work, but playing with chain saws and firewood is my passion...uh i mean sickness. :loco:

Just a quick update as typing is more challenging than usual. I was doing several odds and ends in the wood yard Sunday afternoon which included splitting some pine and spruce rounds for kindling. Somehow I managed to get my left index finger between the round and the back plate on the splitter. That didn't go well. I ended up in the ER with a partial traumatic amputation. Ortho surgeon Monday morning left me with a nearly complete finger. I go back in 8 days to get the dressing off and stitches removed. In the meantime, I'm not operating any power equipment or moving rounds. My roadside stand was almost empty yesterday so I was able to move IBC totes with splits to the stand with the skid steer and my wife loaded them for me. I could get used to that.

I'm also buying seasoned firewood to keep my inventory levels high enough since I'm not processing anything right now. I had plans to put smoking wood out, some of which is seasoned and ready to go. I may get that done over the weekend.

OMG Gary! Scary chit as ive learned myself. A second or two of A.D.D. is not good using a splitter. Wish i was closer as id give you a hand. Take it slow and heal fast.

Got to thinking how it happened and can see now. Hand resting on back plate while other hand on lever. In my early days of using a hydro with another person who was on the controls and i was the log guy i would hold both hands in the air to let him know i was "clear". Ill do that sometimes when splitting solo with left hand in the air. Not so much anymore, but good reminder.

I was actually thinking in the ER that I've "joined the club." I was hoping to avoid membership! On a positive note, much of the oak and cherry I have to split will be almost seasoned by the time I can get to it.
