I've never seen nor heard of this happening... Guy down here has been in the well business all his life, never seen it either. Customer called him, said her well had blown up, he thought she was exaggerating... When he got there, top of pump house was gone, well casing and water pipe were way out of the ground...Ron Waters
"Did that happen in the morning?" Funny. Weird story for sure. Neat "first" for that guy! (And good morning Brother! GIG)
I helped a friend build a cabin near Waverly,Ohio all of the houses on his road are hooked to town water. I asked why they didn't have there own wells and he told me they blow up. He said years ago they tried having there own wells and they would put the pump house as far from the home as they could, just didn't work they always blew up. Alot of gas in the ground , pressure switch kicks on makes spark and KABOOM ! Game over
That's crazy seeing the casing sticking out what looks to be higher than a normal power pole. I could understand some type of methane blowing up the well house, but to push out the casing with 30'+?? of ground friction? That takes some crazy forces.
I thought about that but all the caps I've seen only have 3 little 7/17 cap screws that basically makes a friction fit. This would have been the first thing to go and it's probably still flying through space.
thinking out loud here, but would an exhaust fan help prevent gas from building up to prevent that? Obviously there is power to well house so adding a fan that kicks on every 30 minutes wouldn't be a stretch to do. I'd probably go for a top dollar fan that is rated for fumes.
