Got a new cat tree for the trio. This is much larger than the old one (that I will be refurbishing later). I started with a box of parts when it was delivered on Monday. Hard to believe that the cat tree would end up as tall as my eye level.

Right after I got it put together and in place, Spot (in the cube) and Rainey were checking it out.

Once Rainey wandered off, Rita is being casual about chekcing it out. At the very left, you can see Spot is still in the Cube and eyeballing Rita

Thursday Rita was in the "cave" part (which is noteworthy as she has never expressed interest in the old cat tree

Size difference - old cat tree on right and new on left (this was right after I put the new one together and before I took the first pics of Spot and Rainey checking it out)

I can see one of the cats lying on top of the cube or cave and batting at anyone sticking their nose out of the cube or cave. Or are they too old now to be playing like that? It seems like yesterday we watched the saga of the new kittens.

It could happen between Rainey and Spot. They won't do that to Rita, and Rita most likely won't get up that high. I've been thinking about removing that "ramp" as the angle is too steep for it to be of use and the placement is weird - at present it would be tough for Rita to position herself to use it.

The two youngsters are already 4.5 years old!

Is the "ramp" suppose to be a scratching post? There isn't much room at the bottom to stand and scratch though.

Not sure if I had posted that our pup Tater Chip got bit by a brown recluse spider. For a while we didn't know if he would make it.
They had to remove a patch of skin about about 4x5 inches. He has recovered just has to keep him calm. He just wants to get out and run.

It is dual purpose - scratching board and ramp. It is used as neither at this point - probably because of the awkward placement (although they haven't used the scratching rope on the legs either - so the material may be too smooth for their liking).

Although both youngsters have mainly used the posts on the old cat tree for scratchers, I also supply a cardboard scratcher which Spot has been using since the change. Rainey sometimes uses the back door rug (it's an industrial all weather rug that I got from HD many moons ago and is really rugged), but otherwise has refrened for the last couple of days. Rita has always used 1 specific wood chair that I actually keep in my office just for her instead of getting rid of it.

I got 3/8" sisal rope delivered last night and wound the legs to the old cat tree. Although the rest of the project isn't done, I set it up on the floor and Rainey immediately went over for a good scratch. The sisal I used is a much rougher product than what is on the new cat tree. Fine by me, keep the new one looking good while they sleep / play on it and replace sisal on the old one every few years for about $10.

A friend of our got bit by one of those brown recluse spiders years ago and still has issues from that one bite. Keep your eye on your pup in case he develops additional problems.

Lol. Amazingly none of our labs has ever really messed with furniture. I had a boss that had 2 Irish setters that got scared during a thunderstorm and they literally shredded the entire couch.

We had a lab that while it didn't destroy furniture it just wanted to sit on the couch and chairs "like everyone else". Plus she smelled like a lab. So we got her her own chair. If you dared sit in her chair she would get behind you and push you off. She was pretty good at not sitting on the other furniture once she got her own.

Went down to the basement to start a fire. When I came back up, ol’ Roscoe made himself comfortable.

He’s definitely a velcro dog. Very affectionate.
