Got down to 34 here last night, maybe tonight we will get a frost so I can dig potatoes. Cleaned and started the stove today on straight pellets. I'll start mixing in corn once it gets colder. Took it completely apart, cleaned the combustion air blower and oiled the motor, same with the room air fan and vacuumed all the 'hair' out of the backside too. Oiled the auger motor as well. Need to do the one in the shop yet. Floor heat is keeping it nice in there.

The new furnace runs so quiet, hard to tell it's even on. Only way to tell is see the drapes move.

Started it and had to turn it down... I'm basically idling it on HR2 but it's on the remote thermostat so it's really idling on HR1 and it's 72 in here. Plenty warm for now. Leave it on all night. Supposed to drop onto the 30's later on. I really like the Therm Guard and the way it cycles the furnace blower without the furnace being on. Whole house is toasty. Wife is happy.

Spent the last couple a days battening down the hatches. Storm windows and doors caulked and sealed. Messed with the lock on the back door so it closes tighter agains the seals. Took off the trim and foamed the crevises where air was leaking in around the door frame. Still need to do the front entry door.

Still need to pull the front window sills out and foam around the replacement windows. Only 7 windows to do and the joys is going to be getting the sills out without wrecking them!! Can't in the life of me figure out why the heck didn't the installers do this in the first place??

The windows were put in before I bought the shack! I would have done them myself and saved the installion fee's.

I have 3 old single pane windows on the back porch and 6 on the front porch to do. I won't do replacements, I'll put in new windows and likely a new front and back doors when I can afford them. I may also start replacing the crappy replacement windows that the previous own put in one at a time. If I live long enough!! Attic insulation is next on the list and will give us the best ang for the jingle spent.

When we had the shack redone about i5 years ago, we had the walls spray foamed and R40 in the ceiling above the upstairs. Place is like a vault, a crooked vault. Hard to make a 150 year old farmhouse plumb.

Getting colder here, might have to relight the stove tomorrow as they are predicting snow showers tomorrow evening.

Was 70 today, 60 now and dropping slowly and windy.

Ordered another burnpot for the 6039 from Stove Parts For Less. I was pleasantly surprised the price was a tad less than last year. Usually everything is costing more today, not less. Figure I'd better get it now rather than wait and have it be out of stock. 88 bucks, last year they were 93.

I like having 2 burn pots for each unit, that way I can have one soaking in a pail of water and a clean one for the stove. When you soak them in water for a few days, the hard carbon inside flakes right off, no need to scrape. just a light brush with Scotchbright and good to go.

My doc called me cheap when I complained about increasing my visits from 6 months to 3. Her words "don't be so cheap"! I was fine with the once a year deal.

Woke up to a 60⁰ house and 40⁰ outside here this morning. The hastings is running on level 3 for now to take the chill off before the mrs and kids get up. The other day I noticed that the convection fan start making a little squeal on start up and sure enough last night it got much louder. I had it apart and oiled it a few weeks ago but I'm guessing it's on its last leg. Went ahead and ordered an oem replacement last night. Hopefully she hangs in there until it arrives.

Reports of frost in the area. We had a bit of a breeze so no frost here @35ºF. Heats been on and off for about a week now.

Still a bit of goodies in the garden. Maybe a dozen peppers and loads of maters yet to pick.

Had ice in the bird bath, So we might have been fooled too. No visable frost per say. So garden is getting clean out today. Putting up the garden hose/bird bath is on the wifey's list. I have some chimney maintenance to do and go get a chimney cap. Maybe brush the flue if its dirty. To windy yesterday for my old azz to be up on a ladder/roof!!

I did some inside chimney work yesterday. Replaced the clean out door and fixed around the flue for the pellet stove adapter. Hole was 9" so I relined the flue for the 6" adapter. Refator cement is still curing. But ready for service. Stuff needs heat to fully cure. Why it looks a funny shade. Will be white when fully cured!

Pick up some blocks so I can prop up the pellet eater and get all the pipe ready to connect. Oil tank is real low. Should be any day now for it to run out of juice! I best have the eater ready to duty!!
