Sounds good. So it sounds like a little more margine of error than I thought ! I just worry..cuz it all happens fast. But I tell ya..I love e how fast it would split in the wood I have !!!
It's outstanding on straight wood, even huge pieces of oak that I can barely lift up onto the table, it splits them with ease.
Best thing I did was picked up a used Timberwolf Tw-5 with a 4 way wedge . Being a maple producer as well I need small splits . With auto cycle I can hit the levers and it splits and returns . I know it’s overkill for your use but there are some deals to be had if your patient . I drove from Mi to Wisconsin to get it and it cost me a bit more than a new TSC splitter but not much more . Really want a 6 way for it .
I was just watching a split-fire vid. Had it hooked to a tractor the size of my Kubota bx2380. Had a pto powered hydro pump. Dual action wedge. Pretty slick ! I've always been against pto splitters ...but there's something to be said about not having to work on one more motor from time to time. Probably talking abt 20 hours of splitting a year. That's not many hours compared to what I put on otherwise. Interesting.
HoneyFuzz you'd be all set up for this with your front end loader at the same height as the table and full of rounds. Sounds like quite the production setup!
Absolutely! It's kind of what I almost do now. Accept I have the loader setup high for the splits to go into..then over to my stacks. I'm liking the ideas..keep em coming ! I'll probably never stop thinking of ways to make it easier. Next year...the cutting and splitting will be done right next to the maple shack..now that i have a driveway back to it.so I won't need the loader on that end of things anymore ! Don't mind the pic of the driveway by the shack...I apparently don't have a pic of the finished topping...but I do have one with the base material down.
It would be kinda nice to run a smooth running diesel...instead of all the problems with gas that acure alot more often these days. We use fuel stabilizer...and sometimes it's still not enough... Before... After...sprayed out carb good....put in the rest of my Seafoam. Running almost perfect..still a miss every so often. Got a new carb on the shelf just in case. Whatever the gunk was in the bowl..it etched the metal. Sometimes I wonder why we pay so much for a gas/water combo at the pump !
I love getting the brain going ! Thank u guys. Still not quite sure... but im thinking...just by looking at the kinetic splitters ..that they have kind of a chute that blows splits outward..over the splitter hitch. New splits keep pushing the old ones. Is that correct? If so..I wonder if I could make an extension to that...set the splitter outside the shed....push splits in as someone stacks inside. Kind of like a conveyor ! Does this sound right to you guys ? I'm all about touching the wood one less time...and saving our bodies!
My Dad's been in construction forever...he has some old concrete extension chutes ..used to hook up to concrete trucks. With the handles handles cut off..the wood would slide right in and through I bet. I'm getting crazy now lol
That’s right I forgot you had the tractor! That would be idea. The split fire is probably the only splitter I would consider replacing my super split with It can make a pile of wood fast but also has drawbacks of its own.
Scott if you leave the nut on top of the actuator arm a little loose it will stay engaged until the end of the stroke whether you hold it or not. Kind of like an auto cycle function. At least that’s the way I have mine set up. You can still stop the cycle anytime by pushing down on the arm.
That says alot right there..ill keep that in mind. About the tractor....the only problem with the pto splitter..it ties up the tractor. But set up right..I won't need it for that part. Trying to weigh those options in my head
Yeah you’d have to probably option it with the log lift. I don’t mind not having a log lift for the super split that’s what the dingo is for.
It’s certainly a handy little critter. I use it quite a bit for work but also around the homestead: It’s probably no more handy than your tractor though. In some respects less so. For example I have gotten it stuck back in my woods a couple times because of the extremely low ground clearance.
That's a really cool machine...id love to try one out someday. They definitely have there place ! Are you collecting maple sap from the sap sacks ?
Yep that was from this season. Of course I could only fill that ibc tote about 1/3 up before the dingo got front heavy.
