Here in Ontario we can rent single or tandem axle dump trailers at Home Depot, all their trailers have hydraulic/surge brakes no need for an electric brake controllers
Unload with a chain or an arborist rope and a tree in your yard. Back up to the tree, tie off to the tree, tie off to the log, and take off! No guarantees in the integrity of your trailer when done doing this, but it wouldn’t require your tractor
What kind of tongue wait did you have on that load? Guessing you unloaded before unhooking your trailer
We hauled logs for 10 years or more with our 16' trailer. Had a cable about 8' up a tree, as others stated, hook chain or tongs to log and pull trailer out from under it. Roll out of the way and repeat. Went well most of the time. Take ramps off first, though.
Dang, Dave...yo memory is too good...... I guess you meant this picture.... That happened right after the air bag install...bent right behind the bracket. Guy put the last 2 logs on the front of the trailer... Got it straight and boxed chassis in... Load of 12' & 16' pine saw logs, only had to haul them next door Heaviest weighed load that we have hauled...10K net wt...sweet gum logs... Do I recommend this...no...but a dump trailer even hauling a few big logs at a time is faster than dragging them that far, plus all the dirt that will kill a saw chain...
Log trucks here in my area charge me 75.00 to load and 75.00 to unload and a1.50 a loaded mile in-between. I have 7x12 dump trailer but hire a log truck most of the time. 7 to 9 cord delivered and stacked with a grapple where I want it. It would take me a day and a half to two days to haul that many logs home
walt oh, don't I wish I could find this... I am interested in what you said but it appears to me that there might be a typo for the loaded mile number. Can you clarify the number? Also, are they using separate equipment to load/haul or does the truck have a loader on it. The latter doesn't exist around here any more. So far, I have not been able to find anyone around here to do this. Don't want to mess with it, "we're behind, have plenty to do." What's weird is I am willing to pay (if it dollars up). To me, a tree service is the most logical for this job equipment-wise because a skidsteer to load (but then unload unless a dump trailer is part of the equation) seems the best choice. But tree service rates are sky high. So, again, this morning I am off to the woods with my trailer and chainsaws!
A log arch would make quick work of it. Put it behind the truck and get to it. I have had herds of deer watching me cut trees/wood from only 30-40 yards away. They are curious critters and if you have a bow/rifle with you, it's easy to get an extra "meal" while working.
Yes the price is right,they just raised there rates they did get 50.00 to load and 50,00 to unload and 1.50 loaded mile in-between. I have heard of some that are at 3.00 a loaded mile. The log truck has a grapple on the truck that he can reach out about 15 feet to load. When I am skidding I try to get the logs close to a road or driveway
