If it hurts the back then you are doing something terribly wrong. I had polio then injured my back almost 40 years ago and have had multiple surgeries. I can split without hurting my back but not if I try to split horizontally.

Guess I’m doing something wrong then. Horizontally, I can stand up straight.
Vertically, I have to continually bend and stoop, which is very painful on my back.

42 on its way to 37. Small chunks of elm, cherry, and white oak just lit. Might have some coals when I get up in the morning. We’ll see:yes:

A quiet mild night down at the fish shack. Missed two and that was it for the fishing. Calm and looks like 1/2 moon.

    62 for a temp.

Mild @ 47° F. My oil heat kicked on when I woke up, so I loaded the stove with some silver maple in defiance. :D

Bending and stooping is something I cannot do either. That also is one of the reasons I can't use the splitter horizontally.

Wow, that's a bit colder than us for the weekend.

48 this AM. Came home yesterday to a 77 degree house. Wife doesn't like being cold. I let the fire go out. Full on shoulder season is here.

I know it’s real early for those low temps. Normally I’m not thinking about a fire until later in October. The hurricane broke something.

34 degrees at the casa this morning. Currently burning some good sized Pine uglies and cookies.

69 degrees in the house currently.

Still at the overnight low of 57 here. Nice and mild. Overcast heading to mid 70's today. I'll take it.

Same, hurt my back about 10yrs ago and splitting vertical doesn’t bother me. Standing for long periods of time is no good for my back.
