I need another chainsaw like I need another kid......but I answered an ad today to pick up an outdoor storage bin........and as I was loading it into the truck the guy goes......"Hey do you want a garden cart?" I said let's go take a look. Tricam SD100-D. Looked in decent shape so I took it.

As I was loading the cart into the bin that was already on the truck, he goes "Do you repair chainsaws??" and I was like "Why yes I do........" and it was because he saw the STIHL sticker on the back window of the cab.

He pulls out the hardcase and there's this almost new looking Stihl 026 and he's like "I got this chainsaw and I've replaced the carb 3 times and it doesn't run now but you can have it....." and I was like "Sure thing!" and while I was loading THAT he goes "Hey do you want a weedwacker? Same story, doesn't run...." and it was a John Deere T105S straight pole that he said could handle the hardcore brush cutters.

Man what a score.....I went there for a cheap plastic bin worth maybe $40 new and came home with a garden cart, a chainsaw, a weedwacker.....oh and he also gave me a jug of bar and chain oil!!!

Saw was made in 1998 +/- 1 year and has a brand new RS chain on there!

Here's a video of it revving. First thing I did was dump the fuel and add some fresh TruFuel 50:1. Would not start. Then I pulled the plug (it was wet as you can see), cleaned it up, sprayed some starting fluid and it burped and then started and ran. Then I changed the fuel filter and it started up and ran which is what you see in the video. After that I put a capful of Lucas fuel injector cleaner and mixed it in a bottle with some TruFuel and now the saw won't idle right and revs high. Perhaps the Lucas cleaned out a clog. I did do the brake cleaner spray test around the PTO, the muffler, the base of the cylinder, and it passed that test. I'll have to adjust the saw tomorrow. Pretty stoked to get a free saw lmfao.

My son got a free 036 Pro a while back. It needs a lot work, be worth it when it's rebuilt though.

Thanks all. Makes up for me overpaying for my 034 Super ($150) when it came with no bar or chain, needed a complete rebuild minus a cylinder including bearings, piston, air filter) etc.

Not sure that I need an 026 when I have the 028 so perhaps I will sell this one once I get it running properly.

I think you will like the 026 when you get it running, and will want to keep it.

Here is some info from an old FHC topic:

I'm rarely in the right place / right time fir this type of event to occur. Good on ya bud. Side note, that trimmer might be made by Echo. I read somewhere that echo made them for Deere and mcculloch way back. The mcculloch I know for sure as I've had one of each, echo / Mcculloch, here side by side and they were nearly identical except for color.

Awesome! That was totally worth the time! We have a similar storage box. The pressure washer will clean up the haze on the textured parts no problem.

I read somewhere that Mitsubishi made some equipment for Deere as well. Who knows! Might need a carb kit, probably a fuel filter and it looks very lightly used as well.

Thanks for the info on the 026 vs 028 SimonHS. The 028 has some sentimental value to me as it was my first gas saw ever....obtained in late 2019 or early 2020. I really don't need two similar sized saws so it most likely will
be departing some time sooner rather than later.

Yeah it was wet and drizzling and I threw out my back chainsawing the other day so I'll clean 'er up when I'm back to normal!

Incredible find. And the 026 case would cost about $40, is a very nice case.
