The 420 acre girl scout ranch we back to has been doing a LOT of fire mitigation the past few weeks.

Great news because we’re uphill from where they are clearing. Even better news is that the fire department responsible for mitigation is dumping the wood at the entrance to the ranch for anyone to grab.

It’s one of those scores that’s 5 minutes away, super easy to access, beautiful scenery and the wood just keeps coming. Makes up for all those not so easy scores.

Mostly ponderosa, lodgepole, some aspen and a wee bit of doug fire. Basically, everything that grows up here.

I’ve picked up 4 PU loads so far over the past few days.

Sweet score and sweet dog. I nominate you for the “you suck” award out of jealousy considering my recent botched score.

Seriously though, nice work and keep on hoarding.

In wildfire prone country like where you are, do you tend to have firewood stacks and sheds farther away from the house? Move them closer for the winter?

My home owner’s insurance makes me keep my stacks at least 30 feet from the house at all times. They come by randomly to check too.

My stacks are probably 40 feet away. I do have a box on the deck that holds maybe a weeks worth during the winter. Future shed will be around 30 feet away. 0FB5452B-D55A-49EC-AEE9-28822350E28C.jpeg
