It's the Hearthstone Homestead. My wife and I had it installed in March in an existing fireplace, had new SS liner installed and everything. I only started a few fires to break her in a little bit but so far I'm impressed. I'm looking forward to winter and running her full bore. My last stove was an Old Dutchwest cast iron with no secondary burn so this Homestead is very new to me being soapstone with secondary burn. What I noticed from the few small fires I have had in the Homestead is that the secondary burn puts on a great show, as if watching the fire through the glass wasn't mesmerizing enough without it. Also I noticed the soapstone can get very hot but not nearly as hot as my old cast iron would, that thing would chase you out of the room and the soapstone retains its heat for much longer. It's also my first time owning a stove with a blower so that'll be nice. Thanks for checking it out and let me know if there are any tips or tricks to operating this kind of stove!

Beautiful stove.I would of had it coming out more from the fireplace so the fireplace rock wouldn't absorb some of the heat. With that done I'd put a pipe damper in.My cousin had his Mansfield sitting in his fireplace and complained about not getting enough heat.I told him the stone of the fireplace is absorbing a lot of heat and your probably loosing a lot of heat up the chimney if it isn't sealed well.He sold the house and tried to give me the stove.Since I already had the Mansfield I said no.

Luckily my home is only about 850 sq ft and the stove is rated for 1500 I believe, even with a little loss of heat from the rock absorption my home should still be plenty warm.

Won't the rocks absorb heat and then radiate that heat back into the room even after the fire slows/dies?

With 850 sq ft I think you'll be all right.Keep us posted. A pipe damper will give you more heat time if your able to install one.

    Hey that does look good!
Think you'll save on cordwood as well?

We went with a Jotul with the 'afterburners' when we heard that it would be as much as 40% more efficient than a smoke dragon.

Looking forward to pics of it lit up, at night etc!

This will be my first winter with this stove and also the first winter in this house. Compared to our last house/stove yes I expect to use far less wood. We will see!

Yes, it will, it's not a loss, unless ----
part of that masonry mass is outside the house envelope.

Very nice. Nice install, are the stoves supposed to be up on blocks like that, or was that a better way to get a nice fit into the fireplace? Not very big, but nice hearth. You might want to put some kind of carpet/flooring down to protect that nice flooring. Do you have a spot near the stove to put your daily wood supply? I always make a bit of a mess getting my wood from my outside supply on the deck to my inside stack next to the stove. You had a stove previously so you know the drill. It's a beauty. Keep us posted with some pics as you start burning full-time. We love pics. Welcome to FHC!

We had to put the stove up on the cobblestone pavers because the blower is on the bottom of the stove and I wanted the stove to sit flush with the chimney opening and not farther out onto the hearth so that's what we had to do. We do have a spot next to the stove where I could stack some wood, I'd have to get a log holder or something though. I will definitely post pics once I've got her up and running full bore.
