My son told me about some trees being cut on the roadside near his school the other day, and being busy as heck with other things, and having about 15 cords worth sitting in the woodyard, I wrote it off. Saturday morning I drove past, and it was some sweet black locust!!! Of course I couldn't get it that day because of a wedding I was to be in. Sunday I thought about it all day, and I guess the wife got tired of me mentioning it, and made me go for a ride to see if it was still there. And she wanted ice cream. I was hesitant on getting the wood because of the busy road, and not much room to pull off safely. But needless to say, I went for it first thing Monday morning. I was pleasantly surprised that they were still cutting on that road, and had caution signs out. Score!!! I haven't been able to find locust since 2018. 20220919_094335.jpg 20220919_095351.jpg 20220919_090810.jpg

    Nice score.
Regardless if you're ahead, that will need a few years to dry.

Seems like fall is the best time for scores in my area.

Good on your boy for keeping his eye open!

The only scrounging my 13yo voluntarily does is, when we camp at a campground, he’ll check out neighboring sites for leftover firewood after the campers have packed up and left.

He is always on the lookout for me, but hates loading a truck. He better start liking it because he is going to owe me 3k for his car repairs.

And bugs! We have small mosquitoes, no see-ums and the spotted lantern flys absolutely driving me crazy right now.

I left a couple pieces that were about halfway ant eaten. Other than that I got it all. They shredded everything up to 6 inches.

I have not seen a lantern fly around my house or neighboring towns all summer. Took my boat out on the Delaware River last week and they were coming down the river non-stop. All alive, but not for long. Overall numbers seem to be down, but certain areas are still thick with them.

    Pricey,

Nice roadside score. Not as peaceful as hulling it out of the woods, but many times easier on the body.
