Interesting…the F45 looks like a possibility. Anyone know how the “turbulator” works?

I know two guys who have the Jotul F 500, they both have the same problem- the side down is "frozen shut" for lack of a better way of wording it.

Jotul does make an attractive stove. Saw the F 45 in someone's place on PEI but never got to ask him how it runs for him.

Get online, facebook market and craigslist, and any other search engine you know of... and look for the Version 2 Oslo. That's what I have had for the last 5 years in my house, currently moving and looking for another stove (something that doesn't give me such blistering heat close to the stove), and it is a great working stove. I watch it closely but it is a good running stove.

However, I will say that it might have been too much stove for my place and my house was almost 1600 square feet. And the room it was in, the living room, was 20x20. Some things to think about.

now why would our government start being user friendly now? lol
I'm just attempting some humor, not to start a war if this comment goes south, mods just delete it.

I just called the stove store and switched my deposit from the 500 to the 45…that looks like it’s going to be perfect for my needs.

It’s in stock, so whenever I’m ready to do the install. I’m just about ready for the framing inspection, and then I have insulation and drywall to get done.

In stock, can’t beat that. Good luck with it. I wish I could try out the F55 without buying it.

I hear that… wish I could try out multiple stoves before actually picking one. I’m in the same boat, trying to get a stove but need one that suits my needs, not just my tastes.

In my mind, I would choose between BK, Woodstock, or Kuma. Those are the best IMO. I have a BK.

It’s install time…I centered the stove location between two windows on the gable end of my room addition, which means that the pipe will exit the ridge of the roof. As a result I need a piece of flashing like this, but turns out Duravent doesn’t make one. My options now are to either have my local hvac shop fab one up, or to jog the pipe over in the attic and run it out one of the sides. What is the better option?

Wouldn't cutting the ridge be bad practice, as far as framing goes?
    Personally, I'd jog it over...

It’s trusses, so no issue there. The pipe would be exiting dead center between two trusses, through the ridge vent.

That being said I’m leaning toward jogging it over too.

Holy crap….for two 30 degree elbows and an 18” section of pipe it’s over $1k

Guess she’s going out the ridge, boys!

Feeling like fall this morning…getting excited to fire the stove up for the second winter! I fired it up for the first time last season in mid-October, and then didn’t use the HVAC once between the first week in November and mid-April. Between good insulation and an open floor plan, this stove kept everyone more than toasty all winter long. I loaded it up with good seasoned hardwoods before bed and choked it down…still 75 in the living room when I got up the next morning

I'm excited too. I'm sick of listening to air conditioners, sweating, high electric bills, bugs, and mowing the lawn.

Glad you're still liking the stove.

We're probably still a month away from our first fire here, but you never know. Our earliest time lighting the stove was September 7th, 2020.
