I am installing a stove in a livingroom addition I’m building, and trying to decide on a stove. The addition makes the house 1200 sq ft. I previously had a Blaze King “King” model (old house was 5000 sq ft), and I really don’t want another cat stove. What suggestions do you have?

That leaves a tons of options...have any other preferences that could help narrow it down?

It was great, really…just looking for something that will allow me to enjoy visuals of the secondaries a little more, and won’t have me constantly worry if I’m in zone.

I’m really leaning toward the Jotul F 500 V3 OSLO…anyone have experience with the non-bypass combust or technology they’re touting?

May want to do some deep research on the 500V3 issues.

We have the pre-2020 F400 Castine in 1300 sq ft, and it's been great. If you end up deciding you want a simple tube stove, you might want to check it out.

However, it won't really burn overnight, and you're probably up in the Oslo-class of stoves if you need a primary heater.

A BK Sirocco would likely allow you some much longer burn times than a tube stove and might possibly allow you to view some flames as well.

Aside from that the best light show I have seen from secondaries is from Woodstock Stoves.

The Jotul F500 V3 is a great looking stove but I’d be a little Leary of the non bypass cat system, it hasn’t been around long and there’s been a few reports of issues. Another option from Jotul is the F45. Also look into the Pacific Energy T5 or Super 27. Both these stoves have well made stainless baffle designs I prefer over baffle board tube stoves.

I actually like my Drolet Escape 2100. It was relatively cheap and a great stove. With only 1200 sq ft. to heat maybe you can go with a smaller model like the 1800 or 1500. Good stoves

The Vermont Castings Encore looks interesting….I can’t tell from the site of its a cat stove or not.

Man…I was checking out the Hearthstone Heritage model, and as about to pull the trigger until I saw it was a cat stove. Is there a tube stove with soapstone out there that’s similar to the Heritage?

Alright…I’d love a soapstone model in a non-catalytic design, and with top tier quality of build. Are there any out there?

All the soapstone models that I can think of at the moment have cats...maybe someone else knows of some that don't?

Are there any decent stoves (soapstone or not) these days that don’t have cats?

Here's a link to search through a list, but the site appears to be down right now... EPA Certified Wood Stoves | US EPA
Use the advanced search to pull up a list of "non-catalytic" stoves

1200 sq feet I think the Oslo will cook you out.

the F45 would be a better fit.

the Woodstock fire view is soapstone with a cat but has nice flames.
