I ordered a Hearthstone Clydesdale back in may. The installer just says "dunno" when I call to inquire about it.

Anyone have an inside scoop on these things? Wondering if I have a shot at even getting it in for use this winter.

Looks like most manufactures are backed up pretty bad this year. I have a friend that just ordered a PE Super 27 and not sure if he’ll receive it before December. Blaze King lead time was even longer.

More and more people are going to wood burning. In Europe so many people are going to wood it's becoming harder for them to get wood.

What's weird is I have contacted a couple other places (outside my area) and they have them _physically in stock_ and can ship for a few hundred dollars. I've considered trying to just get one delivered and eat the extra costs on shipping.

I'm trying to decide if I'm being too impatient or if this company is just out to rip me off.

They originally told me they had a stove for me IN TRANSIT in may, and then literally seconds after they took a $4000 deposit they changed the story to "several months" and then now every time I call them it's "dunno but hopefully by the end of the year, maybe Halloween," which is conveniently just long enough for me to be past the six month chargeback period, and small claims court doesn't take cases this high. So these guys could literally just run the clock out and then pocket my money and I would have _no recourse whatsoever_ and have to just take the loss. I honestly don't even mind waiting till next year but I'm getting extremely nervous about this massive sum (for me) of money that is hanging in the balance and their actions do not communicate honesty to me.

Cancel order quick. Hopefully before they disappear in to the murky mists. You could inquire of Hearthstone if they have the seller on file as well. plus you could also ask them what their lead time is running. Shipping is another issue

Cancel now while you can still do a chargeback if necessary. This wasn't part of the deal when you paid more or less in full.

You paid this money to Hearthstone, or a dealer? If its Hearthstone I'd think they'd come through as they say...if its a dealer, I dunno that would make me real nervous...I think I'd cancel as these guys have already said.
Better to spend a couple extra hundred for shipping from elsewhere, than to lose $4k.

    Nothing here sounds kosher.
I would call Hearthstone to get a better answer than "dunno".

If they have none warehoused and you're on the list for the next production run, they'll at least know when the next production run is. Which is a lot better than "dunno".
Then you can decide to wait or buy from some place that currently actually has one.

When will they install it ? The same "dunno" ?

Report the incident to your Attorney General's office. They'll get on them and shouldn't cost you a dime.

Hearthstone is a great company. Their parent company in Europe, was shut down hard due to Covid. I know this to be factual because we do business with their parent company. Some of our orders have arrived 3-4 months late.

Most dealers, when they place an order will use the customer name as the PO. So confirm this with the dealer or Hearthstone.

As to our lead times, first recognize there are thousands of stoves that we ship before year end. Most dealers saw this demand coming and placed orders to have stock. I'm certain this applies to other brands of stoves as well.

Either way, do your due diligence and see if you can get a better expected delivery time.

On final note, I ordered some bullets for reloading online. I put them in my cart and nowhere did it indicate they were not in stock. Now, 30 days later, I got an email stating they should ship early next year. There are scoundrels in person and online alike.

Be persistent and you'll make out o.k.

BKVP- Bullets- as with all things, it is quite possible at the time of your order they were in stock. but orders previous to yours depleted stock. This is very common since the covid stuff. even before due to hoarding by many, and has been going on since the best salesman the firearms industry ever had took office and departed 8 years later. supply chain issues are the primary source of problems now over all. Then add in the demand factor that has far out striped mfg capability. Adding production lines is not cheap and most corporate conglomerates are loath to due that. Most are running at max within the confines of labor force issues. there is a bunch more , i am sure that you are well aware of.

Agree 100%, except they waited 30 days. We would be out of business if we waited 30 days to tell our dealers "tell your customer..."

I'd go that route. "dunno" is not an answer.. Order one with confirmed availability/delivery date. Cancel the order with the other place.
Otherwise, dunno can' string you along thru the winter. Some unethical dealers will sell your order at a higher price and when demand comes down, finally fulfill your order..

I love that you can say “bullets” on this site!

If another dealer has your stove I would recommend hopping in the pickup and going to get it right now. Might even save on sales tax.

What a lovely way to spend a day.

I had great luck with the hearthstone company. They were very nice. Put 30 cords through that stone stove.

    Minor update.

I made several attempts to reach out to these folks. They answer the phone every time but the responsible person is always 'out to lunch'. After several final serious attempts to get a firm update I sleuthed out the owner's email and messaged him directly explaining my saga. No response. Really? Wow.

Determined to move on I called back, having decided to let them choose either a full refund or bigger problems for us both. Thankfully they were reasonable about the whole thing, and I got my 4k back.

Meanwhile I found another place that has the stove in stock and ordered it immediately. Deposit is made and install date is tenatively mid-october. Which sounds perfectly reasonable. I will update once this second phase of the saga completes. Hopefully the story ends with me having a working stove insert in my house this winter.

Thats news in the right direction!
    I know the feeling though.
We brought our Jotul home weeks before the chimney guys were to arrive to install the liner. They said September '20, which got moved to November. We didnt have our first fire till january 11th '21 the day I installed, and permit signed.

But we had a lot of work to do before the inspector showed up. So the extra time was a blessing.
