So about a week and a half a go I had three tons of MWP delivered. they dropped them outside my bulkhead and I had to lug them into the basement. It seemed like every other bag was stretching excessively or ripping unless I handled it like a baby. Pellets spilled everywhere. Very annoying. The one bit of comic relief was my three year old son watching me. Every time I'd grab the duck tape to tape a rip so that I could stack the bag he'd say "you fixin another one daddy?" I don't remember the bags being so delicate last year. Does anyone have any cheap bag stories or had experience with certain brands bags being subpar?
North Country pellets are notorious for having bags that rip open easily. One of the best pellets I've burned though. A little while back another forum member posted issues with his Barefoot bags ripping this year too.
We'll that sucks,I've never had one rip on me, and I handle the bags at least 4 times on the cart at the store ,on the truck ,off the truck and stacked then into the hopper. Maybe they got a bad batch of bags. Are they ripping at the seams? I know some one here had an issue with that they were't sealed properly.
They weren't ripping at the seams. Getting them in the basement takes forever if I'm only doing one bag at a time so I'd throw two over my shoulder and grab a handful of plastic on a third bag which I'd carry down by my side but the plastic on it would stretch and rip. So instead of carrying three at a time I was forced to carry two at a time either on my shoulder or in front of me. Maybe it was partly my fault but I'm just curious if you guys have seen a difference in the bags that different manufacturers use.
well, we've not had any issues with the Maines YET.........although I have seen a few bag weld issues with other brands this year, Maine has been good.....only have sold a couple hundred tons so far, so its still early tho....will keep a weather eye out
Dana, No need to carry them to the basement several guys here Smoke show for one , put a plastic slide on the stairs slide the bags down and stack a whole lot easier than trying to man handle 3 at a time. I know they have pic's they'll be by later
I'm not sure ,but I think that if they were 50 lbs the larger bags might not fit on the standard pallet??
That might work if I had someone else to help me, one person grabbing them at the bottom while the other feeds them at the top but it's just me. The bulkhead is only like 8-10 steps so it isn't all that bad. it only took about an hour to get the three tons stacked in the basement. I actually enjoy the exercise.
Two years ago, the wife and I moved three tons from outside to inside the garage in three hours. Both of us out of shape and overweight. Not too bad because there were no stairs. We use the plastic skied to pull them from the garage to the house if there is snow on the driveway. We'll pull in a weeks supply each time so we can usually be picky when we do it.
unless we are talking abt selling pellets for the Italian export market, which are either 33 or 30 lbs each......
