We also have a Home Depot and a newer store about 20 miles away called Theisen's. That is similar to Farm and Fleet.
Well I started using that sticky Lucas oil stabilizer in the old John Deere bout 10 years ago. It works. Sounds like a new engine. No more burning oil, no more fouled plugs.
Actually, ours here did! Pennzoil and Quaker state! They also sold a 2 stroke oil I had never heard of before, I believe it was "American"-T something. Not sure.
I never used Quaker state but I did use the Pennzoil Outdoor 2 cycle oil for a while. (This stuff below). Many years back I had a old Homelite XL or Super XL, don't remember, but thats mostly all we could get around here except "Marine" Johnson/Evinrude oils. In the 70's and early 80's around here we had 2 auto parts about 8 miles away a few gas stations with no 2 cycle oil and a Kmart. I used the Pennzoil a lot, never had an issue and cut many cord of wood with it.
This was straight up motor oil. My grandfather owned a gas station that did service so that's where the advice originated from. This would have been in the 60-70's in Carlisle PA called Earl's. The advice always stuck and I never touched either. Dad's words were almost always wise in my mind. He used to say the 2 saws to steer clear from were Stihl and Poulan, cuz by the time he got the tree cut down and sawed up, you Stihl be Poulan to get them started.
When I was a kid I mowed lawns with a lawn boy 2 cycle and cut a LOT of firewood. Went through many gallons of Pennzoil air cooled and never had any issues.
That was back pre-1990 or so. They were known for paraffin buildup. Moar better nowadays. Wife put 280k on her ‘01 Tahoe runnng QS only
Good Lord, my neighbor had one when I was a kid. The poor old guy used to pull that thing till he was blue in the face! Green deck, off set front grass shooter and Hummmmmmmmmed along when it did run. Quite the sound vs. our old crank handle 20" push with a briggs motor. I wanna say this is as close as I remember that mower.
Those who may not know LawnBoy was an OMC company. Yes Outboard Marine Corporation...the parent company of Johnson and Evinrude.
I have one made in 1972. I've mowed with it for two years till I hit a hidden rock the road commission blew into yard. It took out the bottom bearing I believe. Mine ran pretty well.
That's it exactly, cast deck and all !! If dirt built up on the reed valves they became a beech to start!
Not far from me in Waukegan Illinois. Lawn Boys were sold everywhere around here!! Along with Jacobsen 2 stroke push mowers.
