I start up the main floor pellet stove when the inside temp is low 60's (and may only do a short burn to take out the chill). Some years it is in August, some years it is Sept (last year 9/29 was the first burn). But looking back, it is usually some time in September. But, I don't leave the thermostat on (for letting the stove decide when to turn on/off) until October or so.

The basement pellet stove gets started later since the basement will hold onto the warmth longer. This year, I will have to run the basement stove at least once before the end of the month to cure the gasket cement (I replaced the gasket this past Friday).
