Long story, but….. I will be getting a house, shop, and property back from a forfeiture. I’ve heard of a few things that have happened there in the last couple weeks that have me highly concerned… enough that I will be calling the Sheriffs tomorrow and passing along some info. Looking for ideas for some type of security cameras.. maybe the cellular trail cameras….. Need something I can put up fairly easily, able to somewhat hide… just in case. There is some cell service, but no wired internet or home network setup. I would like to have images sent to phone, as we are 200 miles away. Please advise the technology challenged.
Cell cameras probably will work for you even though you have limited cell coverage. Just pick the make that matches the company that has the best cell coverage in the area of your property. The biggest issue will be the winter. Even if you hybridize your battery system to a solar/lithium array the winter will be a deal breaker. Especially 200 miles away. The cell cams will work if you just need to watch the evictees for a couple months till winter sets in. Politics being what they are in your state, don't rent that property out to someone without telling them about the cameras. Reasonable expectations of privacy stuff may land you in deep doo-doo. With the cellular trail cams you have pretty good night vision options incase they come back for revenge or some stealing. Easier to hide also. I had to CRT into a couple trees to place the cameras, because flatlanders were savvy to folks putting game cams up everywhere. Worked for me anyway. Interested to hear other ideas on this one.
I've bought a couple from this place... Pretty good customer service when I had questions about no glow's Game & Trail Camera Reviews - Trail Cam Buying Guides
thanks… honestly not overly concerned about the evictee…. But more of some of their “acquaintances” ….. I have been looking at the game cameras with cell connections…. Reasonably priced too..
Honestly I don't know all the carriers prices. I only have Verizon where I live and had to use their towers. I believe it was a bundle deal. I remember reading about a company that has one camera that is the mother ship so to speak. So you could have several connected to that one that happens to pick up the best signal, or is hooked up to a cell booster.
Confusing I know. Shoot, just a plain old game camera is confusing. You can research them for days and still be hesitant on which to get.
We've heard that people can use something on their phone, not sure if it's an app or what, to detect cameras. I think they said it finds the infrared. You might want to put a cheaper decoy camera in a not highly hidden spot, with a better camera (especially a cell camera) well hidden but taking pics of the decoy.
I've bought several from that company and they are good. They also double the warranty on new cameras.
I would look into Simply safe alarms, very easy to set up you may be able to hook up the cameras to run off of a cellular hot spot.
I'm interested in what you choose. I have another house I've been holding onto for some reason. Anyway this summer has been a bit sketchy in that area and I'm not sure the direction I want to go. ie- being cheap on a camera so for now I just put a sign up hoping that is enough deterrent. My cell carrier sells sims for data only so I was considering a cellular type camera myself.
I have a Reveal cell camera hooked up to an external battery at my gate. Send photos right to my phone. All in with battery it only cost me about $130, $7/mo for the service. It would get you pictures that you could use for ammo to keep the riff raff off your property for sure. That tree broke off in the most advantageous spots while I was on vacation this summer.
It is the original one. Called the Reveal. I see that they have a couple new models. I would not hesitate to use any of them, my dealings with Tactacam have been stellar. This one even got stolen and they were able to facilitate its return, crazy!
