You could’ve messed with him a bit, explaining it was an old foreign machine and that the guy who stamped it must’ve been dyslexic and meant to put “INDOCHINA”
I work closely with quite a few newly-minted engineers. Some I shudder when I see them coming down the aisle, but a couple are pretty sharp. The good ones tinker around on their own time at home on their small hobby machines. They still need a little guidance occasionally but the aptitude is there, which is half the battle.

I think I may have mentioned this before but… I have a couple extended family members that are highly educated” train drivers”… own over a hundred wooded acres… a large tractor… there is a wood stove in their house… every time I see them they bitch about the price of propane. :rofl: :rofl:

No offense to locomotive operators or people with engineering degrees that can actually solve a problem.

One of my dealers I went to yesterday was telling me about an insurance inspection he had just had on a storage building. The insurance guy looked at the paint peeling on the back side and said “that’s probably lead paint, some kid could come eat it. You need to have it removed and re painted”. His response was if a kid can eat enough of that paint to kill himself he’s got bigger problems! Then the guy says there’s a fire hydrant down the road a few hundred yards, you can put in a sprinkler system. Well, nope that’s the end of the city water and there’s no electricity in this building. Guy insisted he could still have a sprinkler system. How do some people get through life? And reproduce!

I think we will continue to be in trouble until they make you take an IQ test to participate in public election.

Some can ride a bicycle. Some don’t chit their pants when meeting the pope. Some can do stairs without falling up them. I could go on.

I was a machine repair / millwright at an overhead crain and hoist manufacturer for several years. We had an engineer I dubbed +/- 3 foot because we were doing a multiple CNC machine musical chairs event to "maximize production space" and the morning the machine movers were there the very first machine that was to be put in its new location wouldn't fit because he never walked out to measure the area he wanted it to go because "the print said it would fit". The machine was 3 foot too long for that area. Of course this instantly turned into a cluster fork with machines unhooked from air and electric, not making parts and nowhere to go till someone with brains whipped up a new layout.
