That's incredible. In the northeast can't touch a pellet for under $300, and I could be wrong, but I'm not aware of any northeast mills that sell direct for any decent direct discount.

Here, the only way you can buy extruder direct is full flat bed loads or 22 skids plus you have to unload (which I can but I don't want to store 22 skids in the barn). Certainly not with my free corn.

Stopped at the local Lowes this week and saw they had pellets outside. Pulled back the wrapper and they were Green Supreme; AKA the new Chows. $6.48 a bag. If you buy a ton, $6.16 a bag which is $308 a ton. Need to visit the Depot across the street and see what they have.

Eh, that's nothing. Hardware store was getting that more than that last year for Green Supremes. This year's price for GS.

Looks like the year of the pellets in my area if you aren't lucky enough to have natural gas (which is not common in the state except along the MA boarder, so it really doesn't count)

The first are the prices per MBTU for the common types of heating fuels. The second I used an online calculator to figure out the 100 MBTU (because I was too lazy to find a calculator that would do MBTU). Usually the state shows it all in a nice chart but not until the season gets started and they report more than 1x/month. I did not insert costs of coal or Natural Gas at mcf(1000 cf) since those were not available. Also, the Electric (Geothermal) line coincides with the Electricity Source Heat Pump. Home heating fuel prices as of 8-10-2022.JPG Home heating fuel per mbtu as of 8-10-2022.JPG

Last year, the Electricity Air Source Heat Pump and wood pellet costs per MBTU were running pretty darn close (many times within pennies) so I ran my mini split a lot. This year, is nowhere close to the same. Although I will say that electric prices have been set until January (for the largest electric company in NH), but the rest of the options are not.

That is a bargain for most people. Buy in bulk, and that's almost 50% cost of Douglas fir from the dealers :loco:

@boogieb I'm lucky to have NG. But I'm also going to have 4+ tons of pellets as backup.

I dont really believe in Farmers almanacs, etc. But if some of their predictions came true for a hard northeast winter ( haven't had a tough winter in maybe 10 years) cant imagine what could happen to oil prices, grid reliability, etc.

I remember winter of 2013/2014 which was pretty hard. Lots of cold early and lots of snow. Propane was over $5/gal (gas was high too). I'd just bought this house and was spending $1k/month to heat only the 950 sq/ft main floor to 64*. Put in my first pellet stove in early January 2014.

Then the next winter was pretty tough too and there were shortages. I had paid a local place upfront for several tons (which they stored and I could pick up small amounts at a time). Deliveries became unreliable and he was only letting go of 5 bags a week (ha - like 5 bags could heat my place). Fortunately I never ran out because I started with 3 tons in my basement and was able to find pellets close to where I worked. Then the next winter was easy, heating fuel prices were low, and spring of 2016 the "fire sales" were on for the over abundance of pellets.

Weather and fuel prices certainly keep us guessing from year to year.

Just like comifornia yesterday. Push new gas car ban for 2035, then today you can't charge your electric car due to unstable electric grid. Elon musk even saying all electric won't work. Need a balanced approach. Next generation nuclear is looking better. Germany looking to keep theirs going, and Asia and others looking to build new plants.

Mr. Scot Linkletter looky at what pellets the Concord, NH Home Depot is carrying this year instead of GS (they still have Green Teams). My favorite pellet that is a nice balance of quality of heat / ash / cost (i.e. total value). So if I get low and my local TSC runs out of MWPs, I know where I'm going.

I think that’s around what the Depot in Wallyworld CT is charging for GS.

We went through about three tons last year. And just had a few more windows replaced at the house. Will most likely go for three again this year and see where we land in the spring.

Liked Runnings till they sold me a trailer. Which I like.
But the weekend kid running the place left a LOT to be desired.
Still, they have some hard to find items.
