I’m heading to an auction tomorrow morning. Huskee 22 ton splitter will be there, I figure on taking a run at. Guessing it will go to $750 or so, pretty sure it’s in really good shape. Seems like it would have been one that you could pick up on Black Friday for $899 just a couple years ago. I know it is nothing special but how far would you go on it, given the current state of affairs. I didn’t see one single splitter in a Black Friday ad last year. Anyone else have one? What do you think of it? Probably not horse enough for all the elm I process!
I have one. It’s not spectacular at anything. But it spits everything I throw at it. Seems built well enough
I probably wouldn't go much more than that, but I'm cheap too so...and yeah, I gave something like $699 for my Champion 23 ton in 2012 (IIRC) and it will split just about anything I've thrown at it.
$500 I never could understand why folks seem to always want more power even if it is not needed. I have split well over 300 cord with my 20 ton, 5hp splitter (the one the Huskee was built after). I have found only 3 or 4 logs it balked on. They were really nasty. On the brush pile they went but I never thought that was worth getting a more powerful splitter. In addition, with the price of gas what it is, I am pleased this thing just sips gas. The splitter is getting old but so am I.
This one? I bought one new probly 10 years ago. Split at least 5 cord a year, lend it out to family and good friends so it does more than that. It’s held up pretty well. I did have an issue with the return detent in the valve for return pretty simple repair. Replace one hose that dry rotted but was still functioning. I really don’t like how flimsy the leg is and IMO the motor is pretty cheesy the prime bulb design is strange. I’ll keep running it till it quits tho and I haven't came a cross a piece of wood it would not split, I do not get any gum or hickory. It’s no Ferrari but it gets the job done reliably.
I did NOT get the splitter it went for $900 which is probably more than the original purchase price. They sold his firewood stash also, I’m guessing it was around 3+ cords. $500 that seemed like a pretty good deal
What kind of wood & did you buy it ? I think I paid $699 or $799 for my 25 ton at Menards 2 years ago. I just got the Orschlen flyer in the mail today, they had a 25 ton listed
There was also probably 4 pickup loads of rounds out behind the building that went for either $50 or $150
Auctions amaze me. Stuff will go either stupid high or stupid cheap. I think ego gets in the way. Knowledge is key if what market value is either wholesale or retail. Sorry you didnt get it.
