Its amazing how deep of a cavity they can create going after ants. Seen it on a spruce, sassafras, oak and even BL.

They can tell you a lot about the health of a tree. No firewood work today, helped the wife with some things.

No wooding here either. Did scrounge some goodies from Lowes for storage. Stopped there and dismantled one pallet in the light rain. It had a 3x4 pc of plywood i use under the top cover to slope the stacks. Doubt ill do any tomorrow either.

I might do some firewood related work tomorrow, I have some rounds that will get split and then stacked, that should give me enough room in that area if I want to remove some stumps.

I tried splitting some yesterday but only lasted about 29 minutes before having to stop. Might try some again today.

I know, i know! :emb: May do some stacking later. Lots of splits waiting for that.

    Possibly cut a load tomorrow.

It seems like this two face cord stack took forever, between some of the cherry I hauled out the other day, robbing a pile of wood brought out from the two windstorms we had late last November and cutting some rounds off the tops of some ash from this spring, our 60th face cord is up.

We have room for a total of 66 face cord so six more would fill the yard but since we usually burn 12 face a year of hardwood, 10 would be nice this fall.

Great progress, my friend. I'm sure you can make room for more, if needed.

I've thought about making another stacking area for hardwood but that would mean felling more pine, I have to take care of some of the pine from 2018 before that happens.

Getting 10 face cord of hardwood this fall would be nice, my plan is getting after more ash or whatever mother nature can provide.

I used the push mower on the lawn today, I was out early but by the time the yard was done, I was drenched.

It looks like we have some rains coming in for the next 3 or 4 days, we need all mother nature can give us.

We could use the two inches of rain but we received maybe a quarter of an inch yesterday. We gave some on the radar just south of us, hopefully it doesn't miss our area.

Well, we have had 1.75" more this morning. Luckily we got a load of oak chunks to the restaurant before the heavy stuff got here.

That's a bunch of rain over a short period of time. Usually September is a very wet month for us so if heavy rains are moving in around when we start burning, we get a bunch of wood in before it hits.

I think it was the year 2005 in September when we had a chit load of rain, our small town had 3 or 4 bridges taken out with one being on a state highway. The beaver dams the state wouldn't let be cleared out washed down through the brook that runs through our property, it also runs under the state highway where the bridge was taken out, they watch the area where those beaver dams were and if the get built up again, they bring in trappers.

When the beaver dams got under the bridge on the state highway a guy was coming (still dark out) he had a nice ride up when the dam got underneath the bridge and a not so great drop when the bridge went in the brook.
