I’m with JimBear everyone thinks they want grass fed beef.. my sister owns slaughter house, most of time they don’t.. I prefer corn finished taste much better ( yes grass fed until few weeks til slaughter)

you can’t find organic corn in quantity to finish so beef is “all natural” not organic

Back on topic, my wife refills my bar oil jugs at her work for $8/gal.

They buy by the barrel, haven’t changed their employee price for the oil. Maybe I can get her to tell me their cost.

Stopped at the local Ace Hardware today and took notice of what the Stihl bar oil is going for. $19.99 a gallon. Glad I don't need any right now.

Worked at a motorcycle shop for a couple years. The markup on oil is insane. If I remember correctly, he’d get 55 gallon barrels for less than $900 and charged $8/qt. 264qts to a barrel…

My Napa is at $20 a gallon and since I'm going to be milling a bit I asked him what he could get a 55 gallon drum of bar oil for. He talked to me later and said, "How serious are ya about this?" I said "Very serious. $20 bucks a pop is getting a bit spendy." He said that his Napa distribution center said he can get 55 gallon barrels for $385 bucks a barrel, but he has to buy 18 at a time, for whatever reason.

I've used that brand. No complaints.

Napa b/c oil is pretty good stuff but not worth the what they are asking. If you have a local ag fuel supply company they often supply engine/hydraulic oil & b/c oil also. I got my 55 gallon drums from the local MFA fuel depot.
If you were closer I could probably spare some, I am sitting on about 170 gallons. :smoke:

When I started buying it there, it was like 10, or 11 bucks a gallon, 3 or so years ago. Thankfully, it's been hot enough this summer, I haven't needed much. We have a CO-OP here, Frontier Ag, that has dozens of locations and I know they sell oil, as well as have grain elevators, mechanic shops, tire shops, fuel delivery and all that. So I need to talk to them and see what they can do. Somewhere around here has to be able to do better than 20 bucks a gallon.

If you don't mind my asking, what did a drum cost ya? No worries if ya don't want to mention it. If I could get it at 10 bucks a gallon, I'd buy a couple drums and be good for a long time.

I would have to look thru my records for verification but I think the first drum was around $5.90 gallon, the 2nd purchase was a pallet of jugs in boxes because they didn’t have drums, it was around $6.50 & the last one was $9.55gal. Those were delivered to the shop prices.

We called my cousin at the oil distributor, wanted to get more of the b/c oil, if they still had it at $7/gal. Normally get 2 cases/10 gals at a time. She came by yesterday afternoon, had some in her trunk. She brought 9 gallons, 2 different brands...:tears:...
But the price was better...:):)...said it was FREE...:thumbs:...something about they couldn't sell it individually...
We will gladly take anymore they have...:whistle:... 0819221720.jpg

We have a bulk fuel / oil supplier a town over. I'm going to check there for bar oil for giggles. I can buy mineral spirits there for $35 a 5 gallon bucket. Cheapest by far of any place around here. I picked up 10 gallons of huskihl and delivered them to him at Denny's GTG. He can't find it anywhere close to that price. I'll report back.

Keep in mind that the toughness of the meat has more to do with 'do they range free or are they confined'. The more they range, the tough the meat is.
