Friend had three large, standing dead, red oaks. Minimal termites in all three bases, good wood from there on up. Took five of us six hours to make the conversion into a sweet six cord pile. If I could have bottled the smell of all that oak, I know I could sell it! Dave1.jpg Dave2.jpg Dave3.jpg Dave4.jpg Dave5.jpg

Fantastic! And just to think that many hate the smell of red oak... I've never thought it smelled bad.

It was for the mercy ministry pastor of our church. So we did for free, with him helping, and he fed us pizza and drinks. He was very appreciative as it saved him over 2k for complete removal from tree company bid, plus ended him with a years plus firewood that I am guessing saves him another couple grand at least. Nice job for a nice guy. He is the guy stacking holding up the piece.

No, because I think standing dead oaks like that can go faster than three years seasoning wise. But he is well aware it is not seasoned and wont be till my guess next season best case. He has it on pallets off ground, heavy tarped on top, so getting air as best as possible, so we will see. Also split it down as far as I could reasonably go.

Did I see a timberwolf splitter in those pics?
If so, very nice. My dream splitter after I win the lottery :)

I also am a problem child with fresh splits and the smell of them.
I actually went out the stacks today and did a little sniffing :)

That seems like a great way to spend the day - splitting up the red oak and helping a friend at the same time! I love the smell of it split also, and when seasoned it's a tough wood to beat!

    It is a Timberwolf TW5

    Had it for three years.

Wanted one for ten. Sold fishing boat. Sell 1k of firewood per year. And do about 1k per year or so of jobs for some cash. So 8 k over the three years and it's covered now, but man

Sons are leaving home now, sorting table, four way wedge, 500 pound log lift and fast cycle time, that thing will spit wood as fast as one man can load it. Saving up now for timber wold mini conveyor!

Ive always had a liking for the TW machines too. They do make great equipment but they're so damm expensive.
If I worked with wood more and was able to see a bunch like you I'd say it would be worth the investment.
Wood in my area is very competetive. There are so many tree companies and they pretty much control the supply. Some keep what they cut and turn it into firewood and other companies sell the tree length to guys like us or the mulch guys and mill guys.
