What model is this? It looks very deep.
I've never seen a baffle completely vanish before...

Here's a video that may help restore your stove.

Yikes. Did you by chance hit the baffle repeatedly while loading? Rather extreme loss of material ! You gotta be sending most of the heat up the pipe. A good cleaning and parts replacement will tune it back up. Good luck.

It looks like you are also missing a secondary tube.... strange that it is completely gone, or did you know it fell out for some reason

I bet the box of dynamite was useful in heating.
    (From the video)
I like the thermal transition idea of the wax. I thought of getting some soapstone pieces and stacking them on top of the stove(when were not cooking on it).

Done that actually twice in my first year or two burning. Shoved some wood in to hard trying to play Tetris and cracked the baffle. I try to be a bit more careful but have a spare just in case it should happen mid season.

Yeah i would put on welding gloves and fight the wood in there..im gonna get some measurements of the brick and get the manual to see what I need to replace what has been burned away

I keep an extra baffle on hand too. Its above the secondary burn tubes (the afterburner) so I will be hard pressed to damage it. But they are fragile. No longer made of steel, but some sort of vermiculite boarding.

Prolly should grab another. $70 ea. at last look.

I've posted this around here before, but if you crack a baffle mid season and can't get one quickly (or don't want to spend the money) you can repair those baffles with stove cement...blow it off, mist some water on it, apply stove cement and reassemble the pieces...apply a lil pressure to seat things (and hold it, if you can) then let it cure for 24 hrs before installing. I've never had one break in the same spot again...this trick works great on cracked firebrick too...

I would be able to repair a few fire bricks. That would be better than using new ones.
    Two questions arise:
    1. Could soapstone cut to shape be used instead of fire brick
    2. If one used a few soapstone slabs on top/outside the stove, just for thermal mass, would any issues present?

Ive got a few pieces of soapstone, a couple meant to be wrapped in a towel and put at the foot of the bed at night. I dug parts of an old soapstone sink out of the yard when we first moved here.
