...if its not your main heat source. (They claim 96% of woodburners have other [alternative] heat sources.) So they want 96% of woodburners eliminated in 5 years and a total ban of wood burning in 15 years....'cause they say so....

‘Mums for Lungs’ call for a ban on wood-burning stoves

Sounds like they would ban anything/everything that heats your home.

Let's try to keep our neighbors in mind when it comes to smoke and emissions.

I want the ocean to be less salty, but you know...
I do my part to not give wood burners a bad name, as I'm sure the overwhelming majority of us do.

How about we ban mums by 2027 ?
All they do is increase the number of people needing to use wood stoves.

I love it. Burning wood causes more pollution than burning fossil fuels. Those evil fossil fuels aren’t so evil now I guess. All a narrative and talking points for whoever believes whatever. How did people cook back, let’s say 2500 years ago? Leave it in the sun on a flat rock or start a fire and roast that panda?

I read that article because it was served to me by Google.

That said, there were some pretty ambiguous assumptions and straight up inaccuracies. But if you believe it enough, it becomes true, right? :picard:

Interesting how the EPA has determined burning wood is carbon neutral - that is the amount of carbon emitted by burning wood is the same as if the log was left to decompose in the forest. Yes wood does make particulates but the waste can be spread in the garden. The issue here is not the carbon but burning wood is an efficient way of using a renewable resource. Now I do not support clear cutting (especially for distribution centers and warehouses) or cutting live trees expressly for fuel, there is plenty of dead wood available in this area and most of the northeast especially with the result of the emerald ash borer. Most wood burned, at least in the US, is harvested locally so transportation costs are minimal. I don't think there is any locally or even domestically drilled oil and if there is it still needs to be transported great distances, same as gas, propane and any other fossil fuel.

Interesting that they are targeting wood stoves and not back yard fire pits and the agricultural open burning that actually emits high concentrations of PM2.5 that they are concerned about.
Some of these new stoves designs are doing quite well at lowering PM2.5, you'd think they'd be using their donations and efforts at increasing the sales of these new heaters and decreasing the number of old designs in the field.
You'd almost have to believe they were an agenda driven cause rather than a science and practical driven cause.

So the wood comes long distances. Where does the coal for electric generation come from or natural gas? How environmentally damaging is coal production? The article even states that pollution in that area is already high due to industrial pollution.
The one thing it does state is mandating more efficient wood burners. Which may not be so bad

Well fellers; had to comment to an old thread bc I’m a new member.
Since when does much our governing body do actually make sense? I mean, really?!?
The Causes that have the money get the attention. True need or what is right makes no difference .
Take wood burning- I get the whole “smoke” out deal. Then try to teach “that” guy and if he won’t listen then fine him. Wood is renewable and clean as we know. Gas, coal and gas and coal to make electricity is not.
It’s kinda like the EPA and diesel vehicles. Let’s put more sensors and restrictions on the vechicle making it less reliable and use more fuel…. Same deal with ethanol, lol, costs ~10% less than the regular for ~10% less mpg. By my finger and toe calculator that means you are still burning the same amount of gas the ethanol supplements replace lol…

Coal is backed by big electric and mining companies so its too difficult to beat their money so they go after individual with wood stoves...smaller target

I run the e gas in my 5.0 because it's designed to. If I buy gas at the right place, I can get e85 for quite a bit less than regular. It ends up netting me a little lower cost per mile, and it does definitely have more power than with 87. That said, I get it. Without the subsidies, ethanol wouldn't be cost effective.
