Nice little grab there Eric. Something near work or remnants from an old score?

Very close to work. It’s remnants of the humongous roadside cutting from back in January, where they chipped 75% of everything they cut and hauled away the best saw logs. They left a few small scraps behind that I’ll gladly pick away at :D

Another small load of white oak from my friends in the tree service. There were many, many piles and species to choose from but I opted for this. It was the only oak that was live when it was felled this week, the others being dead standing red, white and chestnut oak. Not that there’s anything wrong with the dead stuff, but at this point I have the luxury of being picky :) I’m going to turn this into 14” shorts for loading north/south in my stove, for overnight burns

Does anybody else’s mouth water when you split/noodle a piece of white oak and it looks like this inside? Of course the obligatory thing to say is “there’s a lot of heat in that one” ;)

This load is 100% processed and stacked against about a face cord worth of sugar maple I got back in June. I think I need to find another load of white oak to finish filling out this stack :)

I may have sniffed at least two thirds of the splits in this small pile
I believe there’s more WO, black birch, dead ash, etc where I got this, but I don’t know if it’ll be there by the time I can get to it. I think the rest of the elm near my house will take priority.

I got this 65ft white oak that I just got the permit to take down in my driveway. Oh baby the trunk wood is gonna be *NICE*. Too bad you are in CT or else I'd offer for you to take some.

I bet the neighbors will be relieved. No more acorns knocking their roof, or your cars.

I am a WO fanatic and so are most of my customers. Find I can get it below 15% in six months if I have it stacked loosely and facing the right direction for wind and sun. I only cut red when I have to get it out of the way to access the white. Have about 25 cords of white ready to sell for this winter.

Maybe dead standing? That’s awful quick for a live/healthy tree.

I do like to view my long rows of white oak daily. I see stacks of $100 bills pouring in this winter. I mainly clean up logging operations, so the last 10-12” diameter of the trunk and large limbs. That stuff drys faster than the large trunk portions.
