Awesome to hear the 4 year plan is in the works. When people ask why so much firewood, I have said that its like having an oil truck parked out back for three years at very little to no cost. Im planning home improvements that perhaps will stretch my 3 year plan out a bit. It would be nice to hustle less wood annually....to get my cord/year down a tad.
More nice primo wood there. Not a bad Summer day to be wooding. Low humidity which is a huge plus in my book. 18" bar can still cut some decent sized wood. Did a little zipping yesterday bucking some red maple with looser bark. Zipped after i bucked to length and made bark removal easier. Broken off top thats been in the woods since last year.
It felt good to be out cutting. Aside from being a little heavier than my 16 inchers, there's no reason why it can't be my go to.
Myself and a friend, who had access to a husky 455 Rancher, went over to my SIL's this morning. The goal was to hit the logs and get out. He was on a time limit. First up was the remaining logs from the original blowover on page 1. The Rancher's 20" bar, easily consumed the last log. The larger chunks, w're the log. Some noodling at a thick crotch was needed. Same area. My Husky 445 chewed up the pieces to the left. We then moved to the area where felled tree service logs were stacked. My new-2-me 350 and his 455 made easy work on the red oak logs. And the remaining logs. I brought and used a bunch of stuff. Timber jack, Peavy, 3 saws, wedges...etc. Obligatory saw picture.
Another dent was made in the victim. Actually, that's the end of the blowover. Just need to move it home.
Thanks for pointing that out, Brad. That log needs to be finished off via noodling. It's a crotched piece. We couldn't get it to stay under the splitter wedge. So tossed aside, it was. I had to pack it in after ~2hrs. I ran out of gas and the sun was about to light up the area. Good for the new splits, not me. I was able to muscle the rounds under the splitter. I wasn't able to ~5weeks ago. Also, my stamina is returning.....slowly. I'm viewing both as positive developments.
We moved the split wood back to my place this morning. Me and my friend Bill with his pickup. 2 loads Stacked temporarily Guessing just about a half cord. That's ~10" wide above. There's some ash pieces as bookends. Once I move this to it's final resting area, I'll bring this thread to an end. The tree service wood at my SIL's will be a different thread.
Thats awesome! Glad yall got an early start. I was unloading by 6am. We have a few more loads to move before it gets too hot.
