Found this on FBM a month ago. Went and checked in person right away. Close to home and storage. Nice honey hole i couldve lined up. Having limited space, had to clean up and organize storage better first. Contacted owner again and had at it today. (this was supposed to be yesterdays cut) Good portion had been taken but still lots of decent wood still there. He said wood was cut February 2021. IMG_1497.JPG Some fresh black birch had been added to the pile so i cut that first. IMG_1498.JPG IMG_1499.JPG
Easy back right up and cut. I took mostly from the back as i dont want the white oak...yet. Plus front logs were too dirty. Mostly black birch and red maple with some beech and sassafras in todays load. IMG_1502.JPG IMG_1503.JPG IMG_1508.JPG
When i left. Ill go back and cut at least two more loads as long as the other guys dont get more. IMG_1504.JPG IMG_1504.JPG IMG_1505.JPG Here is the original FBM listing.

Nice score!! I’d grab that whole pile if I could. I’m amazed that people just let expensive hardwood just pile up like that where you are.

You are the only one I know who would turn down white oak yet still take sassafras.

Brad, why would someone cut into log length like that and not use it, why wouldn't they just stack long stems?

Curious, how long is your truck bed? Another awesome score!

    Another one for Brad.
    Man, lotsa wood out there.
If black birch burns better than white oak, I'd grab that first too.

You know what they say, once you go black, you never go back.....

All the trees here are "expensive" hardwood. Not a lot of burners. Probably saved him a bunch not to have it hauled away. I chuckled at the cut made by someone else who was cutting there. IMG_1500.JPG

Call me crazy! :loco:  They were wedged in there pretty good and i didnt feel like wrestling. Its just a matter of the current stacking/storage situation too. If room wasnt an issue id take a lot more oak. More than likely i will take to finish off an oak stack and give some to my friend.

Cheaper to leave there than have hauled away. Not sure what the guy was planning on doing with the wood. He had major back surgery and was using a walker so had to get rid of it. Says there is a shed going in that spot soon.

You liked the double meaning title? ;) Actually it was rather pleasant. The dewpoint had dropped to 60ish. The cut was mostly shaded so it wasnt bad at all.

You like the shorter drying times of varieties other than oaks if my memory serves me well. Great score brad! How many loads do you anticipate?

I was very over whelmed when i first checked it out. Came back down to earth and was realistic as i didnt have room yet and other scores to finish.

I anticipate 3-4 more loads giving one to my friend where i have wood stored. That is if the other guys dont come back again. Dunno how many hoarders have been there working it.

Yup very true. Most of my scores are 1-2 PU fulls, not ten or more. Really would like to have an area just to dump rounds and process later.

And yes shorter drying time is key. A lot of hickory was in front and that shied me away too at the time.

Not even close but it appears he was trying to get there by the time he cut to the bottom.
