I seem to be perpetually behind so this fall there'll be a delivery of 5-6 cords (once the guys take the rock tub off the logging truck). It'll be mostly hard maple with some yellow birch according to the neighbor who's the logger, supposed to be standing dead or close to it. They have about 150 cord decked and ready to go. Now I can go from one or two winters to 3 or 4 without dropping a tree. There's a bunch of ash that needs to come out around the house and the driveway edges in the woods needs to be cleared. That'll be a good portion of some winter's supply. Thanks to all who push for 3 or more years ahead, you're in inspiration!
+1 LCBug! I really appreciate the 3-year thing, but also so much more that I’ve learned here. In these trying times when the country is feeling divided, I’m thankful for a space where we can all come together. By “divided” of course I’m referring to whether or not you believe that a solar kiln should be vented.
Hey that is awesome! Not only will you not need to drop trees, but no cutting, hauling, unloading....there will be a huge fuel and time and risk savings. Very cool. Good for pics of the load as it arrives and gets processed. We'll enjoy the glory with you! And we'll be glad when you make the 3 cord/year mark. Of course that goal immediately turns into.....hey, I have space for a 4th year..... Sca
Bahahahahaha! That's funny right there! Wonder who's gonna be the first to bring up the horizontal vs vertical thing??
3 years + is a great system. Couple seasons ago I had a motorcycle incident that gave me some knee rash. It was very nice knowing I had more than enough wood to sit back on and properly let it heal. Then when back at it, I end up beyond 4 to all but 5 years ahead.
Im at about 4 years, depending how cold winters turn out. The next and last job this year, will top off the 4th year and take me well into the 5th, as well as bring my friend up into his 3rd year. Im not as much thinking Ill be unable to keep up, but as other projects come up, I'll have the latitude to do just a years' worth, or skip altogether (yeah sure.....). We have retro fited boats before, and are looking for a trailer sailor to do as an "us" project. Wooding has taken most of my spare time since March. 14 cord isnt bad, but thats a LOT of time. So next year, i can hoard while it's too cold to paint or replace rigging....and then hit the water through the summer and fall. Sca
Here's the usual method of getting heat out of the woods. There's a pile of older oak (had a deal with a guy with a mill, he didn't come back to saw) in the picture but I couldn't shift it no matter what but got a hand from a friend and now have a bunch of 24-28% oak in the stacks which is being kilned. There should be almost enough for 2 years right now but it'll be so easy to increase the years if the pile is decked better. Roll a log down and cut it up. Easy street is on it's way...
Nice achievement. With my latest tree service friend, I have reached 5 years of inventory. 15 full cords for us
Awesome. A sign of a true hoarder. Made the 3 year mark. Made the 5 year mark. Whays your next goal? Sca
What’s a cord go for in your neck of the woods. I’ve been thinking about doing exactly what you did to catch up, just have so many projects going and the family and kids and work and moving. Can’t get ahead.
Shane told me it'll be $110 a cord, including trucking, but my driveway is only 1/4 mile from his (wood is decked in the woods behind him).
