Just got an E-mail notice from Chip Drop. They say I have a load of logs being delivered within the next 48 hours.

What will they bring me? Oak? Hickory? Hedge? Boxelder? Probably ash. Lots of folks around here still felling dead ash from their yards. Like the song says: "The waiting is the hardest part!"

Wouldn't that be prize catch! I can only hope. I'll share, with pictures, when it gets here.

I feel bad for those guys. Right now the heat index is 105° with the air temp at 94°. Looks like a beer run for the tree people, they need it! I know because I spint 5 hours this morning weedeating fence lines on the farm next door.

Do you pay for your chip drop delivery? ...I just googled chip drop, and it says they deliver wood chip mulch. How do you get logs delivered?

Good luck on the drop! It's been over a year since I've gotten anything. Do you take the chips too?

You can select chips, logs or both. Payment is optional.

Payment is 'optional' ? That's strange. Do most people opt to pay or not to pay?

I can't comment on what most people do. However, tree services pay a fee to participate so if you cover their cost, or pay extra, they are more likely to drop at your location.

It's Red oak and eastern red cedar! I'll save the cedar for the outdoor pit and the red oak will hang out in my stacks for 3 or 4 years before seeing the inside of my stove.

I take only logs and make a 'donation' of $20 plus a 12 pack or 2 of brewpops. I'm thinking of taking both logs and chips to up my chances of getting more wood. I get a couple of loads a year which offsets most of what I burn. In the past I've received shagbark hickory, elm, ash

There is a second, smaller pile that I didn't photograph because I didn't see it until later.

Not a bad load there. Too bad the cedar is cut short as i see mill logs. That cedar makes great kindling and dries fast. Plus you cant beat the smell either. At least you didnt get some gnarly behemoth logs.

I thought of you as soon as I saw the cedar. I know you mill, and you are correct, it's a waist of good mill stock.
