    Alright, here's the deal.

I have a little plot on my grandads ranch that I fenced off several years ago. We just got out there in January, when I bought my neighbors single wide, and I built a shed for my water well.

My house doesn't even have a stove yet! But grandads and my mom's house does.

The cattle ranch is a pretty good size, with some decent timber. Grandad is always cutting, for firewood and clearing. Anytime I help, I've always used his equipment.

Well, a few weeks ago, he told me he had something for me on his porch.

So, for the first time, I have my own saw. He has had bigger saws often, he has done a do-it-all tree service for a living before, but as he gets older, he likes the lighter saws that are still capable.

I have a milk crate with the barebones necessities, and I always have a chain in the truck. 20220720_062835.jpg
So.. I know this may look a little pathetic, but it's what I have.

As a hobby, I was shooting alot and building aks and other rifles from parts kits until a couple years ago when everything got prohibitively expensive.

Here's some rifles I built from parts.

I do a bit of hunting of Whitetail Deer, and feral pigs and other predators and pests. The deer keep the freezers full and the pigs keep it entertaining.

I found this forum when I was researching what people thought about the Stihl MS180C. Seems alot here find it a tad small, but I've seen grandad get the most out of his.. although we don't have as much heavy timber in the part of NE Texas as alot of yall. I'm in mostly oak woods. The pine doesn't really start till about a hour east of me.

Anyways, glad to be here, I'm sure yall will straighten me out on a few things.

Nothing pathetic about that, my friend. The 180 is a good saw. I have a friend who runs a tree trimming business - he uses that saw a ton. Sounds like a pretty sweet gig you’ve got down there. As your firewooding habit becomes more severe, you will likely acquire more saws. Some of the saw collections that these guys have is ridiculous (in a good way, of course).

Welcome Woodpusherpro from another Texan (lots of kin around Austin, lake Travis). Nice picture of the family! Happy Family, firewood, Stihl chainsaws and ranching. What's not to like! Glad to make your acquaintance. Don't fret about the chainsaw. While it wouldn't be my first pick for falling and bucking a 40in+ Douglas Fir here in Washington State, it gets high marks from a lot of folks for smaller trees, limbing and brush cutting! I acquired one recently and am impressed with it for a lighter saw. Looking forward to future posts!

Nothing at all wrong with that saw. We have one that I use regularly, especially limbing or cutting 12-14" or smaller logs on the woodyard.
Did a muffler mod on it, changed the bar to a 14" .050 gauge for full chisel chain.
Cutting a 12-13" red oak here...
