I kinda snuck 10 ft on the end off my shop addition to 24x40. It’s planned to be a timber frame kinda pavilion/ parking for the old tractors and truck. And her SUV of course “wink, wink”.

Then last night I was informed NO piling firewood on it. How rude….[IMG]

Got up to 91/92ºF today. Might be the warmest day so far this year. Was still almost 80ºF at 8PM so popped a window A/C in the bedroom window. It was gonna take all night to cool off again. This morning it was still warm at daybreak. I have a new one for the living room/kitchen I bought on sale last Fall I need to plug in and try yet.

Had some trees taken out of the back yard yesterday. The original plan was 9 trees but they ended up taking 13 - all of which were 60-80' tall. They called me outside to look at a tree that was split up the middle. He only noticed it because he was topping 3 entwined trees beside it and happened to see. Otherwise it looked healthy but half would have fallen directly on my house when it decided to let go. I told them to not bother calling me out for any others they deemed needing to go, just do it. The thin that sucked was most of them were black cherry trees - only a couple of the junk maples were taken.

Before - from my sitting area

    After from the same spot

    The final stack

Crowded back yard - good thing the fence is panels so was easy to take down (except the posts - those sucked to dig out)

Ho hum...another day, another bear. They're toying with me since it's still almost 7 weeks until hunting season. That's ok, I have something for them. Upping the ante this season with a new commercial grade electric grinder. No more using the antique hand grinder when processing. Bring it on bear, bring it on.

What a difference that made! So much brighter. Will that give you more sunlight in the winter?

Maybe a bit, but not much because of the sun angle - but that still remains to be seen. I am in the valley at the base of a good sized hill on that east side (rise of 600' in 2 miles of not-straight road), so it is unlikely to have much positive effect in the winter.

There is a 30' span where 7 trees were taken out and there are no trees behind about 20' of that, for the most part. The tree that was splitting (that wasn't originally on the chopping block) was in the middle of that area, so I didn't expect to get a section that has full sun in the morning. that whole area would be in shade until 11 or later. So now the sun starts hitting the east side a couple of hours before it used to and the house starts heating up earlier.

It's a trade off, get rid of trees full of ants and/or dead tops and heat up the house or let them wait until they start falling and maybe have them land on my roof. That roof is only 8 years old and standing seam (30 year life span), so I opted to use the AC more.

Nice to see prices going down, but sometimes stuff really don't make sense lately.

Just as well to overkill in this application. Least you'll get your money's worth. Or closer to it.

I would be if I was buying any of that stuff right now, that's for sure.

It's crazy when a 1x4 is almost as much as a 2x4. Well, I need any ready dried 1x3 or 1x4, I'm buying 2x and cutting it in half on my mill. Big savings.
