Long day... My MIL came over to watch the kids so the mrs. and I could get out for a date. There is a winery called Nashoba Valley about a half hour drive from us that does tours and has a restaurant... actaually they make wines, beers, and liquors. So we headed up there , got a picnic lunch from the restaurant, took the tour and tasted some wines. This place does a lot of fruit wines and honestly except for a couple fruit dessert wines we were not impressed. I tried one of their beers also... not good. But then I tasted a rum which was pretty nice. Lunch was tasty and the tour was very interesting but honestly I dont think Id buy any of their wines and beers.

We had a nice BBQ dinner then after my MIL went home and the kids where in bed I got back to some shop time. Started by taking about my Dads old 70's oscilloscope to see why it wont power on. This one is a portable unit and has an internal battery, and that not suprisingly is burst, which I hope is the only problem. Luckily its a plain old AA nicad pack so I can order one from my hobby suppliers and make up a connector to replace it.

Also got back to the big Albatros biplane project I showed you guys before. Spent almost 3 more hours over a couple nights just getting these 4 little brass brackets placed. Involved carving to shape some pine reinforcing blocks, epoxying those in and precision drilling a bunch of tiny holes for more fiddly #0-80 screws to get them perfect with a 32nd or so.

Lot more to come this week. Im using up a leftover week of paid vacation to get house projects done. Ive got a mini storage shed to put up, that pile of wood my son was "cutting" to process, and Im going to try and finish the second floor repaint job I started in the spring... and maybe do a couple more window restorations (I have done 5 so far, 9 more to go).

I expect all this to be fueled by a lot of beer.... And I mean BEER, not beer flavored water ;) :drunk: (puts on flame suit).....

I finally got to sit by a fire tonight. My daughter had a family backyard gathering in honor of my granddaughter leaving for nursing school and for her sister's 17th birthday.
Had a very enjoyable time. Most likely the only outside fire for me this year.

Busy, Busy day today. Sorted, washed and froze 10.8 lbs of blackberries that Campinspecter picked this morning. Decided to experiment with a different blackberry pie. (posted on baked goods thread) and then went down and purchased 40 lbs. of prune plums and 6 lbs. of tomatoes. I was being very optimistic. I did get 54 pints of plums canned. The tomatoes will have to wait until after work tomorrow.

Busy weekend. Weather was perfect. Spent Saturday blocking up a couple of cords of Sugar Maple for the 15-16 hoard. Used the the new to me 55 Husky I got from KRL. Fantastic saw. Also managed to get the grass cut. Got up early sunday morning and hopped on the Wing. Took a 110 mile ride with a friend who is leaving for 2 weeks in England and Portugal. Got home @ noon, picked up the bride and we rode out to a custom car show in the local area. followed that up with a late lunch @ one of our favorite pubs. Then rode about another 75 miles thru some scenic areas. Some of the trees are looking like they are starting the fall change. All in all a great weekend.

So at work we learned that we are moving to one of two places. One is 2 miles from my house. I'll take that. The other is 12 miles. That will triple my existing commute but still not bad.

Good news for you if it's the shorter ride. Good news for me if it was either, my commute if 35 miles one way :)

Day one of vacation/project week down. Let my wife get out on her own today as I dont do that enough. When she got back I started on the mini storage shed project. Its just one of those vinyl things as a temporary measure until I can get the permit/location issues sorted for abigger one.... but even that is turning into a lot of work building a foundation base.

Joey, as usual, wanted to help Dad. Sometimes even I cant believe the kid is only 3.

I have the stacks about a foot past where the runoff is from the roof so Im good there but I would like to get a gutter on there to help reduce erosion.

I would settle for 12 miles my commute right now is 50 miles one way and always subject to being further including staying gone all week.

2nd day of vacation/projects week, I got the small shed put up. I dont usually like vinyl things but for 600 including the materials to build the foundation this is a good temporary solution until I can get permits and sort out the situation to build a real shed. Backstory is that the only spot that really works would require a variance due to setbacks and is right next to a big double trunk maple that's rotten and needs to come down first.

As usual, my sidekick was helping all day. My wife even packed him a lunch to "go to the jobsite" and he was having fun with his toy toolbelt.

In true 1950s fashion my wife was inside baking apple muffins and pies with my daughter, using the apples we picked on our Sunday "date" ... and even grilled us all hotdogs for lunch. When I made a joke that me out building and her in cooking was like a scene from leave it to beaver she commented that if more families lived like that the world might be a saner place.

    no argument here :)

Tomorrow I hope to get started on painting.

Nice to have your son helping out, I bet he feels like a big boy with the tool belt on.
It looks like everything fit into the new shed, very little wiggle room :)
    Nice job

On the road again. Heading up to NE for the rest of the week.

Long weekend to look forward to. Probably going to the NHRA nationals to breath some nitro.
