Very true. Was looking at replacements but prices are just out of line so staying with the V10 for now. A lot of things I like about the Super Duty, but not sure the next one will be this big, maybe a half ton but time will tell. I think I'm spoiled with the 8' box as much as anything and they are getting harder to find in smaller pickups.
I doubt that I could live happily with anything less than an 8 foot bed. The old V10 Superduty just loves to pack a load of wood. That being said, I do miss my old 96 Tacoma. I could fit it in so many tight spots. Maybe a 2 truck plan is the way to go?
Hey, ever drove an OBS F250? I'm certain the Titanic turned tighter. I had a 96 F250 S/C 4x4 8' for a while...backing a trailer into my driveway was a real test of skill and patience! My 2003 F250 S/C 4x4 8' turns MUCH tighter!
I have no experience with the OBS trucks. I looked at one but passed due to my 2000 showing up for less money.
F150 baby! I try not to take it into tight quarters or mud as i have a habit of getting stuck! (mud mostly) No 4WD on mine.
I feel like my 350 could get stuck in wet grass in 2wd. Don't see to many 2wd trucks here unless there strictly tow pigs.
I put some crappy Firestone tires on mine when I got it. I kid you not, it would get stuck on wet grass in 4X4. Granted it has open axles so only two wheels will get traction.
And duallys are even worse. I've seen 2wd duallys park in the yard for a party (ground was solid) and have to be pushed up a very slight grade to get out.
I've always preferred a mid size or small truck over full size despite having owned a few full size units. I almost never need the capability of even a 1/2 ton.
It actually has a higher payload than some 1/2 ton trucks at 1600. But, all my wood comes from our land. Tractor is my wood hauling machine.
Duallys are great tow pigs. The extra tire decreases traction per tire. So when the truck is unloaded it "floats" a bit more than a single wheel axle. Doesn't help that historically factory duallys we're open rear ends with no limited slip or lockers. My current Chevy 1500 came with a factory GovLoc locker in the rear end. It's amazing what I can pull, skid,...do when that locker kicks in. I have about half a tire diameter spin before it kicks in. I pulled a 26' U-Haul truck the other day. It got hung up driving out of a yard and the rear bumper caught on the slope down to the road ditch resulting in the rear axle floating in the air. I hooked my truck up with a 20' chain to the U-Haul. The road was loose gravel and a gentle tug getting the chain tight didn't work at all. 4 x4 high slowly didn't help. A bit of gas and the rear locked up and I crawled that U-Haul off the berm and onto the road. Wife's friend stated that she wasn't sure my truck would work. My wife told her the truck is stronger than it looks and went back to packing in the house. Doesn't hurt that the bed is covered with 1/4" plate steel to keep my wood and scrap iron hauling from destroying the bed. A little bit more traction for my new LT 10 ply off-road tires on the rear axle.
I bet that soap jug helps the bar earl go where its supposed to go. Good idea. I use these. My brother in law uses a syrup squeeze bottle.
Oh, I thought maybe he was just really intense about keeping his gear clean I like using the syrup bottles too...
I can't imagine anyone being more of a fanatic about cleaning the saws than myself. It borders on lunacy.
