I wish I could find it but a read a writing from someone about all of the modern pollution controls on vehicles vs just driving existing vehicles into the ground till there really wasn’t much of anything left of them. His theory included new/rebuilt engines/transmissions etc. His claims were well supported in my opinion and essentially stated that if we all just kept the old vehicles running, that would leave the smallest environmental impact overall.

That's a very interesting idea. When you start considering mining raw materials, processing them, transporting, disposing of waste etc. it all takes energy, consumes more resources, and adds to the carbon footprint. I think in general living in a throw-away society, wherever we can extend the life of something, repurpose it, or recycle it, its a win.

I absolutely 100% believe that! And the difference between an "old" car...lets say something from 2000, and a car from the 70's (emissions wise) is like comparing an old school low tech OWB fired on green wood with a modern gasifier using lambda sensor! Now, comparing a car from 2000 (still running properly) with an EV is more like comparing an EPA approved stove from 2019 and one from 2020...one is approved "clean", one is not anymore...the real world difference is a few grams (grams!)...and that's assuming that you actually buy the argument that EV's are better for the environment overall (total impact, from mining the raw materials, a lifetime of operation, and then recycling or disposing the old parts) and I for one, do not.

Totally agree with this. I like to wear things out to the point they aren’t really useful anymore and people call me cheap for it!

36%! All I got to say! The EV narrative is declining like a wounded goat on a mountainside.
