Anyone recognize these? These were on some black locust I cut down last year nice and moiiiist Sent from my LE2127 using Tapatalk
Ive seen those under BL only. Some type of maggots. The decaying cambium layer when the bark is loose wreaks something terrible. The WORST wood smell IMO. Take off the loose bark and they will go away. They really skeeve me out. Ive seen them in all seasons, even winter. Why i prefer my BL either fresh cut with tight bark or down/dead with no bark and weathered clean.
oh, jees I've seen those before under bark. Yeah the wood reeked. I recall I popped all the bark off and left hoping the birds would eat the maggots. I guess I had BL and didn't know it. I've also found maggots in compost - but a different kind of maggot. gross, gross, gross, and I've seen maggots in dead chickens. They reek, too. I really do NOT like flies.
Ohh yea! It was ripe as hell, only made better by the heat when I was sorting it all out. Sent from my LE2127 using Tapatalk
One reason ill process BL ASAP in the warmer weather. At least its now barkless for you. Get a lot more in the stack and it stacks better too.
Usually don’t appear close by when your splitting. Come back after awhile and you’ll see them leaving. Granted it’s been awhile but maybe I had mine trained. Was splitting lots of BL everyday and they always showed up for the feast.
You definitely do, that'd be nice! I overturned one piece and found carpenter ant city, went to get the blow torch and all the larva were gone so I burned what I could, lil bassturds move quick! Sent from my LE2127 using Tapatalk
