Bear are a regular occurrence here, and they normally are not an issue, just something you share the woods with. Got this picture on a game camera about 50 feet off my deck a few years ago. Largest one I've seen up here (we're estimating at least 550 pounds).

One came around after the wildfires a couple times, WWW yelled "hey!-go away" and it did.

That would be a bear I would not want to encounter. There was a woman a couple of miles from here that used to feed them. The neighbors were furious. The problem is the one around here was wandering in backyards and condo developments during the day. It had enough pictures taken of it close to houses that I don’t think it was very afraid of humans. The other day I had a deer at the edge of my deck 5 feet away from me and we didn't see each other until I raised the lid on the grill. It went back in the woods. It was the middle of the day. I have hardly seen any deer this year and they would normally walk through our yard every night.

Something interesting I just read about dogs. Lately, our Pointer/border Collie mix has been reluctant to go out into the fenced in front yard at times. He will just sniff at the opened door and come back in. Then he has been rolling around in dirt almost every time he does go outside. He comes in like a dust rag. I was looking up why he might be doing that and one of the things they said was to camouflage themselves from predators. Maybe he does smell a bear or the coyotes that are around here, but it only started happening recently.

Have there been any cat sightings in your area?

Yes, there have been. I was in part responsible for NYS admitting they let them loose in the wild. An article was printed after my son saw one dead on the highway that I reported. The state said it must have been an escaped pet. About a year later my friend sent me photos of a cougar on a woman’s porch at night. That was when the state let us know they released them. That ended a couple of websites that had tried for years to get the state to fess up by collectiNG reports. They’ve also released wolves with radio collars upstate as well.

Part of my job at work is entering the info for new Grade 8 students for September. One student has the middle name of Stihl. I am going to have to find out if one of his parents is a FHC member.

    Good morning all.
Looks like I’m off to get a new grill today for this evening.
My wife opened my old grill today and saw the bottomless rusted out condition of it. I usually do the grilling while she does the kitchening. So I been able to sneak it by the last couple of years.
But kids are in town, both are great cooks and want to have a cookout so my orders have been issued.
Yesterday was spent on working on replacing the rotted section of wall of my shop where the old staircase had let water creep in over the years.[IMG]

The bottom of my grill rusted and fell out a couple of weeks ago while I was in the middle of grilling. So much for garbage stainless steel. Kept on grilling until the food got done. Went out and bought a Weber. Should be good for at least the 10 year warranty.

Got a raccoon the other night, hopefully that is the last one for a while.:rootintootin:

I am whittling away the tree service wood I got earlier this week. Keeping the locust separated from the cherry and silver maple. Felt like splitting by hand I got the x27 and the big red maul out.

Went to drop off used oil at the auto parts store and pick up a few oil filters. Got pallets behind the pool store. The old ford was running like crap on the way home. Pop the hood and use the laser thermometer the cat is 600 degrees, not sure if that's normal or not but much more heat than usual under the hood.

The tail pipe had a ton of soot and it has been clean up until today. Looks like I might need a new catalytic converter. 0702221157_Film2.jpg

Check if the engine is running rich. I think the cat gets very hot normally, but if you keep going with an engine issue you could burn it out. Also check if you are burning oil.

Oil level looks good. Pulled and inspected all spark plugs. 0702221536_Film2.jpg

All of them look like that. In going to gap them that has to be way to much. Looked at tail pipe again sorta smelled like coolant. The truck got a new head gasket in 2017 so I don't know could have a crack somewhere but no obvious coolant loss. No over heating.
