I don't know what's up with JD but the last 2 oem belts for my mower are about an inch or more too long. I smoked 2 others before that, after maket items though, thought that was the problem.. there are no problems with bearings, pulleys, spindels on the deck, or the drive sheeve. rebuilt deck it twice. Take up adj is maxed out. Maybe I will have to buy an oem spindle sheeve just to see if there is a diameter problem.

Saw a tree service working down the road from my house. Asked if I could have some. I was expecting to have to buck and load it into my truck. They did me one better and dropped a load off at my house. Another one coming in the AM. Left them with my number to call if they have any more jobs in the area.

It would have taken a ton of time and effort to bring this to my house on my own, I am really thankful to have it just fall into my lap. I already bucked all of it up. Ill leave them some beer money or something for their help.

I think it's going to be an active year for bear. Lots of sign and activity already and then received a call from a neighbor this morning asking if I could come over and help. A bear tore into her 4-Runner two nights ago. Lots of exterior damage (tore off both rear-view mirrors, part of a rear quarter panel, and part of the rear bumper as well as clawing two tires) but no interior damage (the bear opened one of the rear doors and climbed in but amazingly enough did no damage). Sow with two cubs looking for a to-go meal apparently. Won't be any acorns again locally, due to another year of Gypsy moth defoliation, so the bear will be extra hungry.

Too bad you don't have some sort of dog to put the run on them.

Got some more wood dropped off by a tree service. Some is junk but most of it is good. Some silver maple, cherry and locust.

Set the live traps in the pole barn, got a raccoon getting into the grain and making an absolute mess. I got one last week. Fingers crossed for getting the culprit tonight.

After hearing about the one that got in a vehicle and got trapped when the door closed, I expected a different outcome for the interior. So there is that blessing. Must have done so much exterior damage because it got mad there wasn't anything inside.

The strange thing is that there was some food inside the vehicle (dog treats, cookies, soda). Received a call from her again last night that a bear was back and on the roof of her 4-Runner. Another neighbor and I went down there (armed) to be with her until the police arrived (she is an elderly woman). Different bear this time and it showed little fear of humans. Moved off into the tree line but took a long time to finally leave. Not much the police can do but did speak again with Fish and Game. They are supposed to come out to speak with her today. We removed all the food from her vehicle, sprayed Lysol inside and around the exterior door seams, and poured a circle of bleach around the vehicle.

Drove home afterwards (less than a quarter mile) and the bear was lying down in my yard. I pulled up, backed in, got out and locked the truck and didn't see it until I looked out back with a flashlight. The bear didn't even move. I finally drove it off but again, the bear showed no fear. Waiting to hear from another neighbor because I heard some loud noises around 2AM so I think it got into their shed. It's a boar weighing at least 200 pounds, so while not huge, large enough to do some damage. And the fact it is showing no fear of humans is a concern. A different bear broke into a home the next town over yesterday, so they are busy.

Not overly concerned other than the damage they can do (the last bear fatality in NH was back in 1784). More worried the dog may go after it and that this bear isn't afraid of humans. Makes for a long night when you have to constantly run them off (they can tear into a vehicle, shed, etc. in seconds).

Fish and Game can be sticklers about this kind of stuff unless the bear is aggressive towards people or livestock. I have no problem with that, however if this bear becomes a continued nuisance, it will have to be dealt with. The sow with cubs was just looking for food, but the boar is another story since it shows no fear of people (and hit three of us in the same area last night). Ordering some rubber bullets for the 12ga today. That should hopefully put an end to it (until bear season!).

First one I had ever seen was a couple of years ago that came behind the house and into my neighbor's yard. It was a sow with a cub. This year I heard of one being around, but that was a few weeks ago.

Will bottle rockets do anything to scare off a bear?
Suppose that might be a bad idea if its a real dry area though...

It usually doesn't take much, and my neighbor spooked the sow and cubs away the other night with just the car alarm (albeit after they tore her car apart). I've used a pellet pistol many times to run them off. This boar last night was different, and wasn't spooked by the car alarm, people, vehicles, lights, etc. That's a problem.
