What’s your LEAST favorite thing about hoarding…

The extreme heat kicks my 50yr old arse too. Yesterday was about 82 w/ 67% humidity (heat index 94). I kept taking breaks to come into the AC and cool off. I've been to that place where you can feel your heart pounding and I try to keep my distance! Glad your friend was close by that day. Great to see those young fellas have good role models.

 

Hinerman I get it on the heat problem, I detest working in heat also but I don't think I have ever had a heat stroke or something. I just can't 'go' like I used to and certainly don't want to. I will work tomorrow morning from 7am to, oh, 10 or 11 at the latest and this is a rare thing for me these days (summer work) and the reason is because it will be a low of 67 deg tomorrow, which is about 7-10 degrees cooler than the normal dog days of summer temps we have.

A lady friend of mine states that she had something happen like happened to you and she, literally, cannot work in heat very long at all anymore. I have a couple of other friends who had heat strokes. Be careful!

 

Working in the heat is no joke. I think we all need to read the signs better and do what we can to take care of ourselves especially in the heat. Sorry you went through that but glad it only resurfaces in the heat.

 

Sometimes the body needs more than water. Try drinks like Gatorade on the hot day. You need to replace electrolytes.

 

I'm just a back yard camp fire wood hoarder but....

My least favorite part of the whole process is all of it except the chainsaw part and the burning part. Lol.

 

Rabbit trail:
Make your own electrolyte drink, with 4 of the 4 key electrolytes (sodium, magnesium, potassium, calcium):
Juice of 1 lemon
1t. Sea salt
1qt water.
Honey to taste.

Cheap. 100% needs met. No dyes, processed sugar, not produced in a factory, no preservatives.

 

Getting told by family and friends i have enough wood

 

A neighbor used to continually ask if I have enough yet.
I think I finally learned em the answer since she doesn’t ask anymore. The firewood privacy fence helped keep her out of my business too.

Just got a call on the way to werk.
I got the tree job.
Another outfit will be taking 6 (not 4) large ash trees down, bucking them to 6' and leaving them where I can get them. Homeowner (and friend) wants them gone in a months time.
Looking at August as a felling time.
4 cord my guess, but could be closer to 6 or 8.
Ill start a new thread if it warrants, closer to that time.

Awesome news! Hopefully it wont be the dog days of Summer either. If you want a hand im always a call/text/pm away. Be glad to cut a PU full to help out. Is it in the shade?

 

Yup, out in the woods, 10 minutes from my place.
Thanks for the offer. At this rate, I may revert to hauling rounds off, rather than splitting on site.
He doesn't have an exact date from the tree company.

 

Either way offer stands. Tree companies seem to show up when they want as ive heard stories.

I don't do this because of any desire to make trees into small combustible parts.

I do it so I don't have to see the HHO truck backing up my driveway after lots of $$$ leaves my bank account.

I sorely wish it were different, I'd give damm near anything to actually enjoy the task.

But it's one of those things I do because the alternative is worse.

I do enjoy the heat provided way more than the forced air furnace, and I do love not hearing it run.

But that stove is like a high maintenance woman.

Thats "baby bird" 20 months old today. She was afraid of the saw but was very curious of the tree on the ground. She sniffed the birch and helped me mark the logs. I took a load off and got down to her level. (i mustve looked like a baby giraffe taking its first steps when i got up) She loves my little folding ruler for marking too. Ms. buZZsaw took pics.

 

I could easily give the wood away and just enjoy the saw part but gotta have some for fires. I'm overloaded now. Time to give some recent cuttings. They can collect it off the ground. Lol

 

Just thought of another "least favorite thing" about hoarding.

That would be using what I have hoarded......

That's priceless! Marking wood is a great way to include them. When my youngest hit 10 I taught him how to drive the lawn tractor and trailer. He loves wailing away with the maul too. Keeping it fun/interesting for them is always a challenge. Less work gets done but way more better!
