Had this big ole mulberry log buried in a pile of mixed hardwood for the last year plus. The rounds measured right around 30”-32” in diameter with the odd shaped piece where the trunk forked out close to 48”on the long side. Biggest mulberry I’ve ever dealt with.
They can grow in wierd shapes when they get big. Mulberry is top 3 in my favorite firewoods. I cut this one in 2016 and haven't seen another this size since.
When I burn it in my basement add-on wood furnace, I get an incense like smell. It’s awesome. Can’t imaging that on meat though. I saved some for to try it. Maybe chicken first.
I have a coworker that uses it with chicken. He seems to like it. Asks for mulberry and hickory every time.
Got just a 8' trunk about 10 years ago. Can't remember the size, but it turned out close to 1.3 cords. Truck was scary overloaded on the drive to dump it. This was all before I did better with pictures, so it didn't happen.
If my timber calculator app is correct, an 8 ft log would need to be 62 inches diameter to be 1.3 cords. Beats me but that would be the biggest tree I've ever seen outside the CA redwoods! Do they grow that big?
They can get big, but not sure how big. Wouldn't Suprise if my memory isn't blurred just a little (like some peoples fishing stories).
