I watched a carpenter bee fly into a wood stack, looked closer to see if it was hunting for food, then refocused closer and realized this spider was practically in my face. It sure blended in. Not sure what this one is.
My guess is wolf spider. As a note, my wood chucks are back. I might borrow a trap and try that again... Or Ill let them be. In 2 years, ill be moving the wood pile anyway. If I do catch one, I might just try eating it. Those things ar 4 wheel drive teeth and claws...no exsanguination (sp) for that bugger. Snuffing it in the trap will be interesting.
The problem with wood chucks is if they get started digging next to your house foundation... We get one near our church that comes and goes, and of course it's gone when I set a trap for it.
Moved a plastic cover over a pile of splits and this little cutie was under it. I am garter snake, hear me roar!
I was weedeating fence line today and saw a box turtle. About 20’ away I saw another smaller box turtle. Picked it up and carried it over to the other turtle. Ran the weed eater some more before going back to see how the turtles were getting along. Oh oh, the big one was on top of the other and it didn’t appear to be a friendly mount, so I separated the two. Further down the line I saw a copperhead. Phone was in my truck at a distance that I wasn’t willing to go fetch, so no pics.
Okay, so this guy isn’t technically in my stacks. But he lives in the rocks above my house. He loves to sit in the sun and watch me split wood. He’s my buddy. I took this pic yesterday. I see him every day. Any guesses what type of critter he is?
