    Well, if you can file a saw chain with your bare fingers, 1. you have some tiny fingers! 2. you have some severely dry skin! :eek: ;) :rofl: :lol:

    Sometimes a gadget makes it easier or more consistent. I can file freehand, but why should I if I can do a better job with a gadget?
    It's funny some people can't cut down a tree without some sort of gadget.......I'm one of them because I'm not a beaver.

    Yes. I can file a chain without any "help". I choose not to because I don't have to. I try to keep things as uniform as I can and I carry enough chains to swap out. Running them through the grinder is quick and easy and it's a good platform for filing rakers too.

    Hand filed... (except for a little flap wheel polish on the sides)

    This one had a stone wheel on the tie straps but all cutter work is hand filing.

    I ordered one several weeks ago and sharpened all my chains prior to a trip to the woods. It works great, but I don’t think it’s as hard as advertised, it will scratch with a file. If it truly was 60 Rockwell a file wouldn’t scratch it at all.
