I was almost beside myself when I realized what was in the trailer. I thought just wait until Brad sees this! How long do you let locust season? I'm guessing it won't be ready until fall/winter 2023.

Customer in that post hooked my up with his sister-in-law. I'm delivering 1/4 cord to her Saturday. It will be in a 275 gallon tote.

I was genuinely getting concerned looking around the wood yard. I was down to probably 3-3.5 cords of logs. Fortunately the tree services came through this week.

Really nice score, brother. I thought the bark looked like honey locust. Didn't know they got that huge.
    That's super

I'm counting the minutes until I get home to see what the rest of it looks like!

Black locust can be good in a year. Ive heard on here honey locust needs as much time as oak. I have a cord that was CSS May-Sept 2020 and i may sell next Winter if its ready. Havent checked MC on it though.

That's pretty much what I expected. I have oak and now locust sitting while I'm CSS maple and walnut to burn this winter. Once I get closer to fall I'll probably hit that so it will be ready for burning in 2023-24.

In a perfect world, that's exactly what I'd do. But I figure there's close to 3 cords of it. My dilemma is that I don't have enough split wood to last through winter now so I feel like I need to keep hammering away until I feel comfortable with my inventory level. As you know, this is a very different mindset than people who cut wood for themselves. My fear is that if I run out of seasoned wood, my customers go elsewhere. This is definitely a catch 22 because I really want to get the oak and locust split and drying. I plan to keep them separate and charge a premium (as compared to my normal mixed hardwood). I'm still on the fence about what to split first...

oh trust me i know the feeling! :picard: Keeping primo split bundle wood year round is a challenge especially when stored at three locations! I dont have assembled bundles ready to go and pull as needed for an order.

Thats some big azz wood to process too. Even though its more labor intensive at the time, wood i bring in is already bucked to length, i guess thats an advantage, although i am envious of you guys that get loads dumped in your yard.

Here's the rest of the locust that was waiting for me when I got home. It's across the driveway from the wood yard and needs to go when I can clear some room.[IMG]

This is the business model that works for me. If I had to harvest or scrounge all the wood myself, I probably couldn't produce half of what I currently do due to time constraints. It's taken about 2 years to develop relationships with tree services and it's finally paying off. Now I have to keep enough open room for them to dump so they don't go elsewhere. When I do bring wood home, I buck it like you do so it's ready to split.

I would probably trust her with my 40V cordless saw but I don't think I want to put a pro saw in her hands. She could probably handle it but if something went wrong, I don't know if anyone else would have me! :rofl:  I think I'd better keep her around and do the :saw: myself.

I hear ya. I guess im lucky having the time to scrounge for the most part. Sad thing is my landlord has plenty of room for wood to be dropped in his back yard too.

Clearly it's time to use those smooth talking skills on your landlord! No need for mowing or maintenance if the property is covered in firewood! If he heats with wood, "Cut" him a deal! It's probably not that simple but I'd work every angle of that to make it happen!

I get it. But if the son doesn't own the place... Maybe try a little smooth talking on him too?

I have and he's tired of dealing with his father's hoarding. If i just kept dumping wood for him the old man would be okay but the son gets mad when he has to do any work around the place as its a DUMP. Two other useless sons and teen aged grandson. They do floor sanding and the "good" son works it plus runs a Summer salt water fishing charter so is busy. Says once the folks die place is being sold.

Maybe she could help with the splitter or stacking like Miz Carol does.
