Tried something new Friday night. I cut some maple from a MP ad. Brought it home and put it through the splitter without unloading first. I needed the truck the next day and I hate handling the wood more than necessary. I mixed about 50/50 with walnut I already had stacked and waiting. Worked great! Sent from my QTAXIA1 using Tapatalk
Load of mixed hardwood (face cord) going out in 330 gallon IBC totes Saturday morning. This is my preferred delivery setup. I stack splits directly in totes to season and then load in the truck to deliver. I don't touch it again until I unload at the customer's property. This went to my first-ever bulk customer from last fall. He now has a standing order for 3 deliveries per year. When I got there he asked if I could bring a load to his sister-in-law who lives 2 doors down. How could I say no? Sent from my QTAXIA1 using Tapatalk
I had my first experience with customers paying electronically at my roadside stand yesterday. One person picked up a single $5 mixed hardwood bundle. Apparently she paid friends and family. I got $4.37. That won't happen again. Another customer picked up a $20 loose stack and used Venmo. The fee was $0.48. That was definitely a better option. I don't encourage these payments methods but now I understand them a little more. And then somebody picked up 2 bundles and left $5 in the money box. I don't have BOGO specials. Oh well. At least I get to play outside and usually get paid for it! Sent from my QTAXIA1 using Tapatalk
Thanks you sir! It was a beautiful night for cutting and splitting. I didn't even need a fan! Sent from my QTAXIA1 using Tapatalk
Nice to see your customer base expanding. I want to start trying that with the totes, if we can get more.
If they paid F&F on PayPal… then it would be $5… if they transaction through PP then they take that extra for the transaction. Good looking operation…
Always best to handle the wood the fewest times possible. Plus you weren’t bending over to pick them up again.
It's simple for me since I rarely haul wood home. I really didn't have anywhere to stack it so it had to be split! Sent from my moto z3 using Tapatalk
I don't get totes often but I don't pass them up. I scored 7 about a month ago from a factory that was closing. They're a little rough but they still hold wood. I really like the portability. Wherever I decide to split, I can drop a tote and stack right into them move it where I want to store until it's seasoned. Then I can haul it to my roadside stand to fill it or put it in the truck for delivery. Works great unless you're delivering large quantities. You can haul multiple totes but unloading can be challenging. Sent from my moto z3 using Tapatalk
Inventory continues to make it's way to the wood yard. Some blue spruce from a storm damage job came in a couple days ago. I have a growing stack of pine and spruce that I'll probably process over the winter for campfire bundles. Last night it was maple. That will be split and stacked soon to be ready this winter. I have some downed trees to cut Saturday morning. Don't know what they are yet. Sent from my moto z3 using Tapatalk
I haven't explored the new pile yet. There is some oak off to the left side. The same tree service has more oak coming and possibly some sassafras. The homeowner might want it but I "encouraged" him to drop it off for me.
I was home enjoying my lunch when I noticed some activity through the kitchen window. A tree service showed up with a 16' high side dump trailer full of logs. I directed them where to drop it. They said 2 more loads coming from the same tree. They counted growth rings and stopped at 105. Any guesses as to species? Sent from my moto z3 using Tapatalk
Missed this post. I have a few like that. Nice when they are close by. I love referrals too. Ill start worrying about having enough dry wood on hand.
