Dealing with tree service wood. It's nice that it's dropped off and free, but the time spent trying to get it processed...... Long knots... Got 8 loads last year, some big nice logs, still big cookies on the end We still have about 1/2 this pile of cutoffs left
I will do it but I hate doing anything todo with firewood in the heat. When it gets up to about 90 and above. I would rather work in 10* weather with a 30 mph wind.
I can't think of too much I dont like. I don't get much dirt caked wood. Except for tornados and ice storms, there's not much I won't go out and split or cut in. (Side note, last fall, loaded a trailer on the way to work and left it at the cut site. Grabbed it on the way home after it had been snowing good for a couple hours. Slid past my street going downnthe hill, and took the long way around. Tires were not the best, extra half ton+ in the trailer didnt help, even though I anticipated and went really slow....) I like sweating, good for the system. I like taking my shirt off when its 30° out to split by hand (scares the neighbors away from their windows) I like stacking and seeing the results of a days work. Restacking doesn't happen much, and is good exercise. I am a wood snob, and will toss crotches more readily now. I still use shorts for my stove, and 12" to 15" pieces go to my friend. Not too much goes to compost. As long as burly twisted pieces will go in my stove, Ill dry them. I guess getting tired when there's still a lot of work left to be done.....is a constant stick in my craw. Along with a trailer way too lightweight for the work I want to do.
Gravity... as I get older, I just know it's getting stronger cause... saws are heavier... rounds are heavier... and... my azz is heavier...
Thats why we're here my friend. If you need me to justify it with the Mrs. just ask. I can be quite the schmoozer ...especially when a chain saw is involved.
That was funny. Got a good laugh out of me. 1.9 thumbs up I have a cottonwood score i can go cut at if that will make you happier Zap! About as low as i can get on the btu scale!
If I still cut in the summer heat I would say that for sure. Now I’m far enough ahead that I only cut when it’s comfortable, which is mostly fall and sometimes spring. Least favorite thing now would have to be stacking.
I love spending other people's money as much as anyone! I may enlist you at a later date to schmooze the Mrs
For me it's hitting the dirt with the chainsaw after just sharpening the chain! That drives me up the wall. I'm always like "Why couldn't I have done that when the chain was done and needed to be sharpened???"
I literally did that yesterday I had just put a sharp chain on, toward the end of my cookie cutting. It hadn’t been on more than 5 minutes. I decided to cut up an old busted pallet that had been leaning against a tree for like 2 years. I immediately cut right through a nail.
What I hate is the extra step of moving wood in a wheelbarrow. I can back my truck right up to the splitting and storage area in my side yard. Wood destined for the shed out back has to get there via wheelbarrow.
