On the way back from the grocery store I spotted an arborist taking down a sugar maple in a front yard, and his two teenage helpers stacking rounds to the curb. Naturally I pulled over to inquire. The saw wielding Santa was overjoyed that I wanted to haul some away. I got this one load for now, with hopes to go back. Some of it I’ll have to cut shorter but I’m not picky, especially for something I can load quick and go. He had just dropped the 15’ trunk as I was leaving. With any luck it’ll still be there for me tomorrow

A tad on the unpleasant side today but not unbearable yet.

Great wood scores always happen when it's hot and humid.

That’s nice weather. Hit 96 here today with dew point in the low to mid 70’s

I wish we had sugar maple where I live. That stuff seems like the perfect firewood.

With a score like that, who cares about hot and humid.
Not that it needs to get all CSS in that roasty toasty weather. That could wait for a nicer day for sure.
Im heading for the woods tomorrow to knock off a small load of rounds. Should be a cool ish day.
    Nice score!

Maple syrup of course! Were you able to sleep last night Eric? I know how much you love sugar maple.

LOL yeah it was a long day yesterday, but I'd be lying if I told you I didn't get up at 4:30 this morning with sugar maple on the brain :loco: ;) I'll check it out on my way home early this afternoon. It's on a backroad 3 minutes from my house, so chance are good it's still there. If not, I know where there are plenty other sugar maple logs that have been roadside since there was snow on the ground. :)

I went back but only took a few pieces. The arborist was there and said the homeowner’s son was coming by to pick through it, and suggested I come back tomorrow to see what’s left. Not a huge loss as I’m still more than 3 years ahead in inventory as it is.

Well, thats 4 less you have to scrounge elsewhere.
My friend 'stumpy' and I hit the woods yesterday. There was a little more there than I recalled, but they all got split, hauled to a friend's house, and stacked.

Sadly, that is coming from the tree job where the land owner said there were 20-30 gypsy moth killed trees. I walked some of the woods and only saw 3 that were really ded, and one that didnt have many leaves, but was very much alive. I think some that he thought were dead werent at all.

Another friend who has a farm, is clearing land, and has trees down, so, there are 4 or 5 that will be hauled out of the woods for me shortly.

It’s been nice and cool all weekend here, and my splitter is loaned out at the moment, so out came the Sotz monster maul. There were a couple pieces I had to noodle but all in all not bad. There’s a few days of heat here for me

Here’s my work in progress. I have more in other spots but here’s the bulk of it.

One more small load from the score. There’s more but I’d have to tow my splitter up there to break them down first. I’m not too gung ho at this point but we’ll see. :)

Hey now that looks real good!
I like the shed build. That is sharp.
Perfect piece of yard too....flat for driving a trailer in.
    Nice setup!

Here’s the finished stack to wrap up this thread. Not a whole lot but enough to say I earned my keep. It may look a little haphazard but it feels solid. I left the top crowned so that when I cover it, the stack sheds water.
